92 JDM FD Type-R(?) Rebuild question

Hey guys! Okay so i just got my FD its JDM 92 SSM and it needs some work. The guy i bought it from told me that it only needed a new set of twins to get it running as the motor has compression.

Once i paid them and got the car come to find out it needs an exhaust and bunch of other stuff. (Non motor stuff) Here is my background in cars.. I am a Stance guy who is looking to branch out, I drive a mazda 3 and have done all the work to it myself which means i just stuck on a bunch of parts including a few bolts. I would have never bought this car if i didnt have local help and i do. A close friend of mine is going to help me with this build and putting the car back together but i had a few questions first.

He said the turbo blew up and there was a bunch of oil that went into the motor.. Am i safe to slap my new twins on and call it a day or should i take it apart? I know they are oil injected from factory so i figured it shouldnt be a huge deal but these are almost as much work as my ex girl friend so i was a little worried.

here are the parts i have picked up so far for it to give you guys an idea of where its going.

FD on its way

(not my wheels)

in this new home for now (everyone tells me it will spend a lot of time here.. )

Y pipe and BOV

New OEM bumper because i will never show anyone what came on it

Making wheels fit

Keeping air in the tires

I hear stock stuff is bad so i got this

Block off plates

HKS exhaust

no bumper is better then the rice bumper (i have the other headlight cover

so am i going in the right direction? mostly worried if i should pull the motor or not haha

Thanks guys!

do your own compression check.
Even if GOD himself sold me a car I would still compression check it!
Don't slap parts on until you know the engine is OK to start doing so,or else it is back to square one.

well they may have the "piston type" compression tester.
A Rotary engine compression tester cost you about the price of an average beater.
about 1200 bucks..or more.
Sometime you can get them cheaper, but unless you are into rebuilds etc it is a one or two time use thing that will sit on the shelf and look good.

I paid 3000 for the car... lol not sure if that was a good deal or not but sounds like the tester is almost as much as the damn car haha

Good deal in the us for an FD do as others have said find a rotary compression tester go from there. The last thing you want to do with these cars is over look the easy to start with items. Also get a copy of the Mazda manual it is easy to find it will be helpful.

Bad turbos shouldn't keep the engine from running. Bad turbos might make it smoke, but not prevent it from starting and running. As misterstyx said....check compression and get it running before doing anything else.
Since it's got a FMIC already, I'll assume it came with a standalone. If not, you'll need one before removing any emissions and installing those block off plates.

I dont have a front mount thats on the car im getting the bumper from. We worked on it for 12 hours today it was a long *** day... the kid who had it before me hacked the heck out of this thing.. we are about 80% done now.

motor turned over and had compression so that was awesome!

I pulled all my plastic inside i am going to repaint everything and make it look new again
