Question 91' Vert. side drains..

Hey Guys! Just picked up a 91' vert. its in need of some minor tune and belts, etc, needs smog, but my two concerns mostly is:
1) what is the best way to clear out the side drains for the top. It was sitting for a while and leaves, dust, dirt- etc,. got in there/ want to be sure I clean it out the right way.
2) some oil leaking from top passenger side of engine and smells like oil /fuel in the cabin when driving. any specific thoughts on what is causing this? hopefully not the main seal for the tranny(5spd). but that would be lower area only. Oh, and since Im doing a main tune, should I replace any of the smog/ o2 sensors or any other sensors- or just do the main tune(plugs, belts, wires, k n N air filter going in and fuel filter) ?/ help me out guys, I'm new!!

Probably the rubber seals under the leather shift boot are gone or destroyed allowing fumes in. Exhaust leaks Alison can find the way in.

Welcome to the club!

1) I use a straightened coat hanger down to break up debris in the drain holes. Then some compressed air to clear it out. If it's really blocked, you may need to remove some interior pieces to get at the drain tubes themselves.

2) There isn't anything that carries oil on the top passenger side of the engine, assuming your vert is still NA. You'll probably need to investigate the oil leak a little more.

On some cars, you could probably play "Where's that smell coming from?" for hours, but I'll list what I can.
-The fuel/oil smell could be from an exhaust leak. As mentioned above, there is a boot around the shifter that seals the underside of the car from the cabin. It is often torn. It can also allow the trans fluid smell to get in the cabin.
-If it's regular exhaust, common air leaks are hatch seals, door seals, tail light seals.
-A constant, raw fuel smell could indicate a leaking fuel line or a leaking pulsation dampener. Either is a serious problem that can lead to an engine fire.

I'd do the O2 sensor since you have an inspection coming up. I'd check the wires before replacing them, otherwise, your list looks good. Smog inspections are probably the most irritating part of owning an rx7 nowadays, but there's a lot of good info on here about how to get it running well. Good luck!
