Hi my names sheki and I'm kinda new here but long story short I picked up my first car (a project) not too long ago its a 1983 rx7 gs and the mods done to it are a stage 2 clutch lightweight flywheel and a aftermarket muffler but recently I noticed a knocking sound coming from the front of the engine I wanna say its by the fan but I can't really tell its too loud lol I think it might be the smog pump or water pump it kinda sounds like a piston engines rod knock I just don't know what signs to look for when the pumps start to fail? Any help oh and if it helps at all it has 79,xxx miles on it

 

does the frequency change with RPM? take the belts off and check all the pulleys for play (wobble).

 

No only at idle it sounds like it but after 3500 rpm it goes away but my car idles at 2 :/ but I took the belts off and no puppy wobble on any but I noticed a little bit of coolant comming out of the water pump right at the seal but its only like a drop a minute but then again its like a 30 year old part. Could that be it.

 

I tend not to think it's the water pump, but with you having the leak, it's worth a closer look.

 

Yea I wasn't to worried but for 20 bucks I guess ill buy it and replace it I hope it solves the problem.
