90 GTU Fuel pump not engaging?
90 GTU Fuel pump not engaging?
Hello!
I bought a 1990 RX-7 GTU that had been sitting a while and have been trying to get it to start. I discovered it had a fueling issue, and the sound I thought was the fuel pump was actually just the broken automatic seatbelt. The old fuel pump had died, and now there isn't any power to the new pump. I checked the relay under the intake box, and also the 15 amp fuse in the fuse box, and both were good. The fuel gauge is also not functioning at all despite all the other gauges working normally. Is there anything I'm missing here?
Thanks,
Zeke

If its been sitting for awhile, your best off dropping the tank, removing the fuel pump and hanger, and cleaning/replacing whatever you can
These cars don't send juice to the fuel pump all the time, they do for a quick second when you first turn the key to prime the system, then shut off until the cars starts

the fuel pump doesn't receive juice while cranking either, it does not get 12v from the main relay UNTIL the engine starts, the way it know the engine has started is a switch built into you AFM (s4 use a flapper door connected to a switch). Best way to test is under your air snorkel should be a green plug with only 2 connections on it, jump them and see if the pump comes alive, if it does, then you know you have a AFM problem, if it doesn't, you have a wiring problem
