88 RX-7 Turbo hot restart issue
Greetings All,
The issue I am dealing with is the car starts good cold, and if you turn the hot engine off with the key it restarts good, but if the engine is hot and you kill it while taking off from a stop, it will not restart. It will crank all day long but will not fire, but it will start while hot with a push and popping the clutch while in gear. Otherwise, I have to wait till the engine cool off. The local Mazda dealer doesn't have a clue what's wrong. So has anyone else had this problem?

It occurs only when hot and stalled as I described. With the fuel injection I haven't experienced a flooding problem. If you shut down with the key while hot it will immediately restart.

It only happens when the wife is driving because she is not aggressive with the throttle. What is the deflood procedure? Also, either way, this shouldn't happen to a properly functioning car, yes?

A thirty year old properly functioning car? That's a bit of an oxymoron.

The main point is, hot engine shut down with key it will restart immediately, kill it with a bad standing start and it will crank all day without starting. There must be an underlying issue.
Oh, by the way, my 66 Pontiac runs flawlessly.

Thank you for your help. It's not a matter of choice. The techs at Mazda can't seem to come up with an answer. They found no evidence flooding.

I agree with satch, its flooding, but, i also agree with you, when you stall it from the clutch, it shouldn't flood. Mine has 104K original miles on it, has a bad coolant seal, has low compression, and runs rich, but if i stall it from getting to antsy with the clutch, i can hit the key and start it back up with no hiccups
Just a random thought, when you wife stalls it and goes to restart it, she isn't pushing the gas pedal when turning the key is she?? That would flood it
