Yea i'm just trying to get it smogged. I still haven't taken it in. Anybody know the california rules for registering an out of state car. i'm ex military but i don't think they'll accept the exemption anymore. i know a guy that will "get it to pass" but i'd rather do it legitimately by a place nearby. anybody smogged an out of state RX7 before???

Visit the DMV site for info on registering the car: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/home/dmv.htm

Passing smog isn't that hard as long as the air injection system and main cat are in good shape. There are replacement cats available, or an oversized custom cat can be adapted with your original flanges. Just be aware than almost no shop will be willing to do this for you anymore. Since Jan '09, it has been deemed illegal to install a cat that is not CARB certified (http://www.car-sound.com/04basics/04california.asp). Even trying to buy a non-CARB certified cat over the internet is difficult since they know your address. But there are always creative routes to take...

Does the car have a functioning:

Main cat?

Airpump?

EGR? (not as important)

If so, you should probably pass smog no problem.
