87 turbo 2 questions

I am going down to Florida in a few weeks to pick up an 87 turbo 2 from a friend. I plan on driving it up then getting started on rebuilding it. I don't think I want to port it but I would still like to make it quick. I have looked through a bunch of threads on here but still can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for, I'm sure they're there somewhere but I can't find them. Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated, I just sold my 86 NA so I am not completely new to the rotary engine. A friend told me a good place to start would be more robust internals since I am rebuilding it. How do I go about finding those and what should I look for etc... I know boost control and fuel management are important but where should I look for those? Besides the rebuild kit I should have about 2000 to spend on the car for now and want to know where I should start, it's completely stock right now. Should I get 3mm seals and how would I put them on? I know people get aggravated when questions are asked like this but even if you could just point me in the direction of the thread I'm looking for I'd really appreciate it, thanks

Change the transmission fluid, change the differential fluid, change the oil and oil filter (If needed.), get a new fuel filter and new intank fuel filter (aka - "fuel sock"), change the air filter, check the belts, change spark plugs, and inspect spark plug wires.

All of those things will ensure reliability. It's called preventative maintenance. There is no point in having a powerful car if it's constantly down for repair. You can also look into replacing all of the 25 year old bushings and mounts. A good suspension will significantly improve handling. If you decide to go with an aftermarket exhaust, look into porting the wastegate. (I recommend checking out the Racing Beat REV TII exhaust. It's worth it if you're willing to shell out the cash.)

Here's a great wastegate porting link -> Aaron Cake's EXTREME S4 Wastegate Porting

Since your fuel injectors will be off of the engine anyway... Get them cleaned and flow tested. You don't want your fuel injectors getting stuck and causing you issues when putting them back in after the rebuild. Witch Hunter Performance is a great fuel injector servicing company. Here's their website -> Witch Hunter Performance

Rewire your fuel pump. Read about the importance of this. -> https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...el+pump+rewire

This is a great thread for achieving specific levels of power. It will give you a general outline as to what it will take to attain the amount of power you're looking for.

Also, flush the coolant/water system. IF you change the thermostat... Always replace it with an OEM Mazda thermostat.

You might as well replace the old rubber fuel lines, too. Be sure to use fuel hose specifically made for fuel injection applications. Replace or remove the fuel pulsation dampener. <- Leaky pulsation dampeners have been the cause of many engine fires. (Search "banjo bolt".)

Is the car you are picking up capable of driving the distance?
Has it been maintained?.
Worse case scenario, you find yourself in the middle of no-where with a busted car.

3mm apex seals are for apex seal grooves that have been worn out of spec. The groove is slightly widened (milling, machining) to fit the 3mm apex seal. You may or may not need them. If you do, the apex seal grooves will require professional attention to be widened.
