IN 86 N/A 37k Miles

I just found a '86, 1.3b with 37k miles. All original with very little rust on the left door.
Being as I would need to drive it home (about 250 miles) I was wondering if a quick oil change before the drive back would be a good idea.
If so, being as it's getting cold, what weight oil would you all recommend?
Additionally, any suggestions (besides sleeping bags) as to what tools/fluids, etc. the chase car should be loaded up with.
I should know tomorrow if I can buy it on Thursday.
Thanks for any help.

If you do a Once over, and change the oil, spark plugs, oil filter air filter, and check all fluids, hoses, etc.
It should be just fine.
If those 37k miles are any indication of the condition of the car then it should be a Fun trip for you and your car!
Enjoy it!
Oh,pick a Good place for an Oil change if you do not do it yourself. Some "speedy/jiffy/quicky" places just don't care and you can regret it.
Use a "known" place if possible. One that has good cred..

I drove my car home from about 310 miles...79k on an 87 t2. The owner changed the oil for me and the car ran perfectly for the whole trip. Fuel mileage seemed like it was down but I realized that a heavy foot really affects a turbo car

The car is in Columbus, OH. I can't link pics now but I'll be sure to post some soon.
I'm going to look/buy tomorrow. I plan on taking it easy until I get it home and begin checking everything out.
Stoked!

The thing that always gets to me about low mileage rx7s is the coolant/coolant seals. You dont know if it has done any damage by sitting for longer than its been driven. Rotaries and sitting coolant for a extended period of time do not like each other from what i hear. Cruise it home the entire way even though i know your going to want to hammer down the throttle. Once you get it home flush EVERY fluid. Good luck!

Thanks for the heads-up/ advice. I think the car has been driven from time to time.
I say this because the owner was pretty adamant that the car would make the trip. I know anyone can say anything but, I'm a sucker for older and original!
BTW, does anyone know the wheel bolt pattern/dimension? I have a set of nice wheels I'd like to put snows on.
I don't intend to drive it much during the winter but, I feel as though a few laps around the block is necessary to keep things happy.
Thanks for all the help.

Sorry for the "bump" but does anyone think a dose of Seafoam on the trip back is a good idea?
MMO?
Hookers?
I'm giddy with anticipation!
No sleep for me tonight.

IN Whelp, it's home

I'm amazed!
Pros: 60 psi oil pressure @ 2,500 rpm after 3 hours @ ~ 70mph.
30 psi @ idle..hot.
Temp. never approached more than 1/3 indicated.
Pulls really strong...even in 5th.
I almost felt bad sitting inside. It is that clean. It could use a good detail but, it's almost as new.
Not so pro:
Wife isn't happy.
Needs a little more body work (no rust through) than I had anticipated.
Needs new exhaust system.
Shift lever probably needs new bushings.
A little TLC, and my RX-8 son can eat his liver!

Good find! Wives always hate another car in the driveway. Mine always refers to mine as my mistresses.
