86 fc gxl restoration
Hello. I have an 86 gxl that is in dire need of restoration. There is a lot of rust, specifically the rocker panels and in the wheel wells of the quarters. It has been sitting for five to six years in the back of my parents property, awaiting it renewal into a road worthy car. That time is at hand.
The problem is, I don't know where to start. I have had the car up on a rack and there is a lot of rust underneath. The brakes do not work at all, but the engine fired up first try. It blew the customary blue smoke, but now there is none. The engine is fairly new, it has maybe 90,000 km on it.
I am worried that maybe this car is not worth the money, and I should look for one in better shape. Trouble is, I love this car and I would really love to tackle this restore.
So, where should I start? Any help will be appreciated.

No offense, but your first start is your wallet.
You can fix up a Piece of Crap and make it look showroom quality but you need Money.
If the body is so far gone that it wouldn't be wise to put effort into it then Shoot the Horse and get another body. That is if the engine is still good.(get a shell use your engine)

You could look into the cost of shipping a roller from somewhere south of the heavy snow area like northern CA where there would also be enough population to give you some choices of what to buy. If that looks cost feasible who knows maybe you can find something there or even a bit closer and save some on the shipping.
Should not be too difficult to buy a stripped down car based on pix since you're mainly looking for a good body. I would make sure I got some underbody pix too. There have been a lot of rotaries parted out so you might find something in the parts for sale forum.

I would post some pics of the underbody, but can't figure out how. Its pretty rough, I will take the advice and look for a nicer body to start with. At least I have the engine.
