(84 GSL) Possible flood, in over my head

I bought my second 84 GSL a few weeks ago (the first was my very first car and like a stupid 16 yo I wrecked it - very lucky to get one back) and it's been running relatively well up until a couple nights ago. I had it spinning but not turning over; I'm pretty sure I ended up flooding it and after checking here (I've been lurking quite a while) I ran the blue blade connector fix. Unplugged the ignition connector, put the pedal to the floor and cranked for a good 15-20 seconds. Nothing was happening so I did what's probably the worst move ever - trying to tune my carb to allow more air. I messed with the top two spring-loaded screws (pic below), reran the blade connector process and it started up.

I got home alright (~5 city miles) but it was idling rough. It never stalled but it was on the brink of quitting out a few times. I ended up tweaking the carb screws until I could hear a consistent idle at 900rpm, shut everything down and went to sleep. The next morning, it wouldn't start up again. It backfired so loud both my neighbors came rushing out and a cop drove down the street checking things out shortly after. Connection process isn't working. Plugs APPEAR to be okay, but I'm pretty new at this kinda stuff.

I think I've somehow messed up the carb tune, I looked quite a few places for info on my model (OER 45mm sidedraft, the ones Rotary Shack sells) but I've come up dry. The engine is close to turning, but can't quite make it. Is there something I need to tweak to get the carb back to normal (or ideally, allowing the most air possible so I can push out the fuel in the engine)?

Pic - sorry for the sun glare:

For anyone who looked and didn't know, there were quite a few things going on. I ended up replacing the battery and the plugs (which, I don't know what the PO did but the hex was actually IN the molding of the motor, so I couldn't even ratchet them out - I had to wiggle them loose and then unscrew by hand. What a hassle). I started the car and let the fuel vapor out of the plug holes, there was a ton. Old plugs were completely destroyed.

It's running just fine now but it starts up pretty rough still. I don't know if I have to tweak the screws on the carb or pour seafoam in, but at least I'm back on the road. Thanks anyway.
