83 highway problem

OK- so my problem with my car is getting worse. I have an 83 rx7 with no mods at all. I've searched the forum for sputtering problems- but couldn't find anything like mine. She starts right up every time without a problem. No weird noises while this problem is happening.
I was driving on the highway one night on my way home from work which is about a 40 minute drive. I always use my choke if my car isn't already hot. Twenty minutes or so into my drive home all a sudden my car starts to stutter. I'm going 70 mph at 3500 in 5th gear. It keeps up for about 5 minutes and now I'm going 60 mph in 5th at 4000 rpms. It gets really rough and shaky until i get off the highway then its perfectly fine. It only does this SOMETIMES on the highway but last night it did it on the road while going 45 mph up a hill. I've put 2500 miles on my car since I purchased it and the only thing ive done is checked the coolant and changed the oil. Replaced the master and slave cylinder for the clutch.
My temp gauge doesn't work. Sometimes my rmp gauge (only when the car is cold) won't work until about 10 minutes into my drive...it slowly creeps up to 2.5-3k and then bam it works again. I really need help diagnosing these problems because i'm going back to work soon and this is my only running car. Thanks for your help everyone!

Start by replacing your fuel filter. It is locate by the driver's side rear tire, and replacements cost about $3.00

Where in Michigan are you?

Glad to hear you got it sorted out. Now you have to bring her over for a meet sometime. Keep an eye on the Midwest section.
