when was your last tuneup? do you have a shop manual (Factory, Haynes, Chilton)?

if i correctly got the gist of what you're asking, then the car will start, but won't run. could be a clogged fuel filter. i'd start my investigation there. also, it may be worth your while to simply pull the fuel line and verify flow rate.

as far as your friend's advice is concerned, forget about it for now. get familiar with the car as is before thinking about such a radical upgrade.

Just be patient and do your homework aswell. I have not even picked up my car yet but I have some good ideas on where to start from aking and reading questions on here. I am a complete noob myself but I have equiped myself with some manuals and am hoping for the best. Good luck.

it would be easier AND cheaper to fix the problem than to put an fd engine in it. depending on how long the car sat before u got it weather u'll need to drain all the gas to put fresh in it. change out the filter and u may even need to rebuild the carb.

Could be a dying fuel pump?
Like they said above, change your fuel filter (it's only a couple of bucks)...then I'd check the pump as per the Factory Service Manual (you DO have one? If not check out any post by Sgt Fox {use the search above} and download a copy from his signature). If the pump is good, could be time for a carb rebuild....

How long has the car had been idle before all this started? If y'all just got it on the road again and it's doing this, I'll bet it's rust in the gas tank surrounding the fuel pick-up sock stopping the fuel pump from being able to draw any fuel to send to the carburetor. You don't want to know how why I am guessing that's it...very frustrating problem and not cheap or quickly fixed.

well guys i have changed the fuel filter and it still does it it will crank and will run for about 30 seconds then choak out and if you leave the key on for about 10 sec or so it will start back up and run for another 30 sec as to the question on how long it has sat im not 100% sure but the oil service sticker says next service is due 06-12-2005 lol so im guessing it has been sitting for quite some time i did pull the line and im only getting 1.75 to 2.25 psi out of the line and book i have says that its not enough so next step is the pump i guess

It's going to be the gas tank.
