How did you run the codes?

The codes list in the USDM FSM are largely comparable.

Post a you tube of the code flashing.

This is for manually checking LHD codes but the way to count the flashes would be the same.

For RHD you have to also hook up a LED light (with a built in resistor) to certain terminals in the diagonostic connector.

Correct, I ran the codes with the LED light and the paper clip method and got the LED to flash (see YouTube link on the first post). I am just having issues figuring out all the codes from the flashes.

I just noticed you are a new poster. People may avoid clicking on URLs from new joiners.

Try building up a posting history.

Make your best guess on what you see and look up the code.

See if it makes sense for what your problem is.

Your guess is as good as mine. I think there is one long signal each time it goes to repeat. and it keeps repeating, so it gets confusing.

I think I see:

"11" "21"

i.e short-long; short-short-long; Looooong.

Also if you have a 1996 you need to know about the coil position change and the risk of hooking up the coil harness, and spark plug leads wrong.

Learn this quick, before you, or someone else, hooks up wrong.

Sorry for the delay.
I am seeing the following codes:
12, 18, 25, 26, 31, 32, 43, 50, 54, 71, 73, 77

My car was running fine, then on the way home it went into limp mode and would not rev past 3k RPMs.
Which of the above do you think would cause the limp mode and the revs to be limited?

That is a lot of codes. That sort of result would indicate to me that your car has had a major simplification, where many solenoids are deleted. (is the black solenoid box even there?) This was the case for my car. When we first ran codes, I got 9 codes. Almost all the emmissions related and sequential turbo related solenoids had been removed.

I have not looked up what each of those codes is for. And I have not tried to learn which codes cause limp mode or not.

The approach is to try to fix all the codes.

Often people will switch to a Apexi Power FC ecu to get away from the codes and operate a simplified set-up. Mind that the Power FC is more limited in telling you what is wrong.

(You may need to hook up the Power FC to a laptop to get more detailed info.)

Perhaps check to see if water has gotten into your ecu.

Going the advice of going one at a time and was able to clear the two numbers in the teens, they were both TPS. However, the limp mode is still there with a new “Hold” light.

i heard 26 seems to be a popular culprit, but now to reaching which one is the next easiest to check.

Is your car an automatic/ The hold light is normally associated with the automatic. I believe it indicates you have selected to hold the transmission is one gear (say for going down steep hills).

The car is an automatic, I haven’t had a chance to look further into yet, but with all of those codes I am wondering if it has anything to do with a bad ground under the UIM.

check the wiring to the OMP behind the crank pulley trigger wheel. that is a common cause for OMP related codes

Certainly check all your grounds. Maybe check to see if you have moisture in your ecu and/or corrosion on the circuit boards.

Thanks for the advice. Still not lots of time due to weather, but I discovered the connector from the harness to the OMP was cached in grease/oil. I cleaned the outside and the inside you no luck.

also, I do not know if the grounds would be the issue, it appears the previous owner re did all the vacuum lines and makes me think that if they were under the UIM recently that hopefully is not an issue.

Maybe checking the ECU is next on the list, is it easy to get too?

Ecu is behind the kick panel in the LHS passenger footwell. Pull the two push fasteners to loosen the panel.

ECU should be right there.

When disconnecting the harnesses be very careful not to bend any of the pins. Inspect all the pins, to make sure none are already bent.

Grounds, ungrounded, can cause all sorts of havoc.

Unscrew the several screws to open up the case. Most ecu I have opened up are pristine inside. If you have had water ingress, it will likely be quite obvious.
