1988 RX7 Speaker Wiring

I recently replaced the factory stereo with a new HD radio and stereo from Jensen. I was also able to replace the factory dash speakers with new 5" ones. The stereo works fine and it powers the dash speakers fine. However, upon removal of the factory door speakers, I noticed that they did not use a standard "T" wiring harness? Why not, and how do I circumvent this problem since there is no hook up for this at the stereo? The stereo wiring harness asks for 4 wires +/- for both the doors, while the wire into the dash, for what I believe is the door speakers is only 1 wire. Did I miss something in the stereo install? Do I have to run new speaker wire from the stereo to the doors? Is there an amplifier for the door speakers? Where is it and how does affect the speaker install?

Thanks.

You have amplified door woofers, which was optional for the S4 and S5 and was usually on Verts. This is covered in the Second Generation FAQ. It's also covered in the FSM and Parts Catalogs too. I highly recommend downloading both the S4 and S5 ones, as some items like the A/C were omitted from the S4's manual.

How exactly are you trying to wire these into the stereo? Are you planning on using the door speakers as subs via the sub pre-outs? Posting a picture of the 4-wire connector you referred to would greatly help.

When my 20b conversion is finished, I'm considering rewiring everything regarding the stereo to make it easier to install new speakers and eliminate the factory amps. The stereo connectors are Tyco Electronics Fast-In Fast-ON connectors and they'll send you a sample for free.

If I'm feeling ambitious, I might save the amps for a rainy-day door sub & Vert headrest speaker project...
