1986 RX 7 Dome and Trunk Lights Issue
Does the hatch warning light come on after pressing the dome light w/no key in the ignition (in other words, w/the key not turned to the on position) or is the key turned to on?
One thing you could do is pull the meter fuse and see if any of the warning lights can be activated as before. You could also see if the B/Y wire has power when the key is not set to the on position. And the specific wire which provides a ground to the warning light when the hatch is open is Green in color.

The meter fuse provides power to the warning light unit thus w/key to on the lights receive voltage but what prevents them from turning on is a ground signal. Thus the lights can only be activated if the B/Y wire from the meter fuse is powered and the bulb also has a ground. What this means is if any of the lights turn on when the ignition is not turned to on suggests something else is powering the warning lights besides a fuse that only has power w/key to on and this is wrong.

Okay, let's break it down a bit. Power comes from the battery positive terminal through the fuse box. In the under-dash fuse box, there's one fuse labeled "METER", it supplies power to the light through a Black wire with a Yellow stripe (B/Y in the shop manual's lingo as Satch mentioned). Here's a quick ascii diagram to spell it out better:
Battery + ------Meter Fuse -------Dome Light-----Switch-----Ground on Chassis (goes to Battery Negative)
This is called "Ground Switched", in that only when the switch is ON will it complete the circuit and turn the light on. Most of the stuff in our cars are ground switched like this.
Prefer some T&A instead?
