1986 13B Clutch, Inhibitor, and Neutral Safety Switch Confusion
1986 n/a 13b, manual transmission
Hello all,
After looking over the wiring diagram and a bunch of forum posts, I can't figure out the clutch and neutral safety switch and how they're wired. The 13b in question is a swap into another car thus I don't have the switches to look at and test myself, so I have a couple questions about them.
1.) Do the safety switches actually prevent the engine from running, or are they just wired to the starter? If they are just wired to the starter then I don't have to worry about it as I'm not using the Mazda starting system. (also brings up another question - does the ecu need input from the starter to know to actually start distributing fuel and spark?)
2.) I can only find an '88 diagram online, and it has all three switches listed going into the ECU, including the inhibitor switch, which I read was automatic only. I have also read that the '86 doesn't have a clutch switch. Clarification of those two points would be much appreciated.
3.) In the case that the safety switches will prevent the engine from running (i.e. cutting fuel or something), how do I trick the ECU without having the actual switches? Do they just provide 5v or something?
Thanks much. (coming from an electrical noob)

As far as I can tell, it looks like the clutch switch simply interrupts the starter. I don't think it has anything to do with fuel or spark, it just won't let the starter power up. I am unsure how exactly the ECU ties into it all. I read the thing about the '86s and '87s (with an actual '86 build date), too, but I have not confirmed it with a trustworthy source yet.
I'm not sure if this will be of any use to you, but I'll link it anyway: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...switch-506020/

Thanks. Though I just have my engine (not the car) so I don't know the exact production date, only 1986. Also the ECU is from eBay. It's all a mess lol
