OR 1985 RX7 GSL Bad Air Control Valve

I have gone through the tests in the Haines manual and have gotten to the part that says "replace Air Control Valve". After going to Mazda, and local parts stores, and now the online ones recommended here, there are NONE! So my question is how do I repair mine? I have pulled the side Diaphram and it is plyable and has only small cracks; replaced O ring, no help. What is bottom cover for? Need to pass Oregon DEQ! Thank you, I know this site will have the answers.

I am also new to this forum. Just had some work done on my 1985 RX7 with a 12A engine 1.1liter engine. Rob at Pineapple Racing was kind enough to take a look at and fix some issues on my car after I got totally ripped off by another mechanic (we are dealing with that now and will get refunded or will go to the DA and BBB). For parts, Rob recommended Burt 503-666-5784 or Chris 503-250-3906, they are local.

He said I might need to adjust my idle speed at some point and I do because now it is running rough at idle. I can't remember how to do it though, guys are better at those things. Is there a diagram somewhere on this forum that would help? I don't really know how to use this forum yet.

I also need to pass DEQ!! Unfortunately Rob says my catalytic converter is leaking and it will be questionable.

Hi they have manuals on line here but you might want to pick up a "Haines" manual. It is pretty good. Just be sure and check the back of the manual for the 1985 GSL it is different than the 83 and older.
The Idael mixture is on the drivers side of the carb and may still have a cap on it, it takes a long flat screwdriver to turn it counter clock wise to richen the mix and that will increase the speed and make it run smoother.

Many people discard theirs and eliminate the ACV and air pump. You should be able to get one thru the forum classifieds.

Don't goto Midas for your cat mine went bad and they will not honor the warranty because they have a clause that you have to maintain the car. Just a way of getting out of it. I talked to the Manager Mike at the 82 nd place. What a rip off.

Rob at Pineapple racing told me that any catalytic converter I buy will only last a year or two because the exhaust runs to hot in these cars. Not sure what I'm going to do about that at this point.

I had a mechanic (ripped me off) do the front brakes on my car and charged me 312.00 for brake pads, resurface rotors, service calipers. Then I notice on the bill a charge for 328.00 for rotor hub assembly. Rob said it can't be both, so I went back and questioned them. Now they say they actually did put new rotors on and will credit me the 40.00 for the resurface but that's still 600.00 total plus they carged me another 100.00 for the brake fluid replacement.

I got the part number of the rotors and they are HAWK FA54-33-251B. Are these good quality rotors specifically for a 85 RX7. I'm probably going to end up in small claims court and I need to be fully prepared. Thanks for any help from anyone regarding this.

Update: actually the rotors are Winhere brand, made in China I could have bought them (2) for $65.00 including shipping and they charged $328.00. Man, what a racket.
