1984 1st Gen..car won't start,and other things..need Expertise,please.

My car won't run. I made a post about talking ignitor location. At the same time I made a post on cl. For a mechanic to come look at my car. 2 guys showed up and poured some gas in my carb. She turned over and then died. Now they believe it's my fuel pump and they are coming back in the morning to change it with a diff. One. Please tell me if you know what is wrong worth my car. I'm in over my head now.

I was driving one day and the tach died. But I was where I needed to be so I shut off my car. I started it back up an hour later and started to drive away, tach still wasnt working, 20 feet later she bogged down and then died. i I'd it were my ignitor, I wouldn't be able to put fuel in the carb and get life from it correct?
I'm scared these guys don't know what they are doing. Please let me know. Ask Any questions. I'm am open book

check for spark first. the tach is supplied signal through the igniter.

if you have a solid white spark, try jumping the fuel pump directly. supply 12v. if the pump still doesn't run, supply a ground as well. if it runs, the ground is the problem. if it doesn't run with both power and ground supplied, the pump is bad.
if it runs with 12v supplied, try jumping the main relay.

Ahh. Thank you mod. Looked for my post couldn't find it, thought it was just taking a long time.

I jump the pump by that little hatch under the carpet correct? Under the hatch?

My last post was worded bad.

I can manually put power on the pump, by opening a small trap door under the carpet in the back of the vehicle right?

tbh, i'm not 100% on the location for your car. it will be somewhere near the rear waterfall area. above where the tanknresides (obv). it is just basic troubleshooting. you want to fault an actuator? you confirm.
but first, confirm that this is a fueling issue. after cranking, pull a spark plug and see if there's fuel on it. if there is, use that plug to check for spark.

i wouldn't let those guys near your car. they haven't confirmed failure of anything, yet want to hang a pump on it. that's not how it's done.

when you cycle the key on, can you hear the pump prime? do you hear the main relay click? not sure with these cars, but most will click at least twice during a key cycle
