Exclamation 1982 GSL Smoke on the wa...road!!!

‎>driving in 3rd hard cuz fun
>smoke everywhere
>put it in 4th
>smoke goes away
>car runs fine

it was a **** ton of white smoke...it started to fill up the car so i dont think it was just the exhaust this time.... car only does this if im in 2nd/3rd around 6k....

this is only the 2nd time (other than when starting the car after a few days) it has smoke a **** ton while driving hard in 2nd/3rd. but as soon as i go into 4th or 5th it stops smoking.

any ideas?
meeting up with some other rotary guys later this week. but wanted some input before then. car runs fine and everything seems fine. just curious why it only does this in that gear (2nd or 3rd at high rpm) and then goes away as soon as i shift. white smoke, if i let off the gas too itll stop smoking.

i dont know if its buildup ( i didnt drive it too hard for while as i hadnt gotten an alignment, but now that i have ive been having fun) since i didnt drive it "normal" for a while until now or what.

welcome to the board.

so ... high load, high RPM = smoke and low load, low RPM = no smoke?
what does the smoke smell like?

my nose was stuffy at the time (i even tried to blow it in the car lol) so i couldnt smell it. i assumed it was either coolant or water.

checked my coolant level and lines/hoses today and found the coolant empty (almost) and some hoses unplugged. going to fill the coolant up tomorrow and hope there was no damage. the car still runs fine.

i thought maybe the previous owner filled it with just water but i smelled the sweetness when i checked this morning.

also thank you for the welcome. i went through all the info threads last night and now have about 50 pages bookmarked on my browser for parts/info. love this forum!
