1982 12a wont idle

Hey guys im new to the rotary scene. I bought my 1982 12A about 2 months ago. the guy i bought it from said it hasn't been registered in the last 12 years and he has had it roughly running in the last 4 years. It was out of time and the spark plug wires where switched around. so anyways i got everything sorted out and got it running and took it for a drive down the road. it runs really well over 1500-2000 rpms but cant get it to idle for the life of me.I have drained the fuel and replaced with new, and made sure i was getting fuel, checked for vacuum leaks around the engine bay, also checked my compression and both rotors steadily climbed up to 90psi and stayed there. Took the exhaust of the down pipe and it didn't make any difference on how it ran/idled.

sounds like air and/or fuel isn't flowing enough in the idle circuit. may need pulled apart and cleaned.

That is my next move is to pull the whole carb apart and clean everything. I have never taken a carb apart on a car before. only small engines so I was hoping I would not have to. but looks like I don't have a choice. Would it be a good idea to put a fuel pressure gauge on the line before the carb to get a reading off that and see what that tells me as well? i took the line off to pump the old fuel out of them and it had a decent stream shooting put the end of it.

Before you pull everything apart, a few squirts of carb cleaner down the primaries might help...rev it up, and squirt right after you lift off the throttle. Another trick is to rev it up and toss a rag over the carb. This creates massive vacuum to help dislodge debris from the air passages. Works every time some of the time LOL.

I’m having the same issue. Although, mine seems to run fine until warm. Then dies if I don’t keep the RPM above 2500
