13B Turbo FC S4

Hello everyone, Im new to Mazda Rotary engines...I already searched some of my questions, but I was not able to find any match.

I bought a JDM Mazda 13B Turbo FC S5 engine. And Im trying to clean all the parts ...teardown.

I want to know what 13B components can I eliminate....for drag race functions only. No aircon, No powersteering

Can I eliminate the air pump? from what I read ...its just for emissions, but Do i need to do anything if I remove it?

Others? Remove...then what?

How can I make it simpler?

I will also remove the whole bracket for the power steering pump and aircon compressor

But I dont want to eliminate the oil injection system

By the way, im planning to use Megasquirt engine management.

Currently, all the parts are removed....Im cleaning all the parts and I painted the side housing....the one in cast iron...as what I usually see when I search about rotary engines.

Thanks

The air pump, A/C compressor and P/S pump can be removed. Something to consider with removing the air pump is that the alternator/water pump belt can slip. A double alternator pulley or "yoohoo belt" (small belt stretched between the main pulley and water pump pulley) can solve this problem.

Do a search of the 2nd gen section for "emissions removal". Use advanced search to specify thread titles and target that section only.

S5 engine?..get rid of the OMP if you can.Seeing you are going megasquirt, I would, and just premix the gas.
The S5 OMP is electrical and is prone to failure. It is an achilles heel in the engine bay.

Thanks for the replies...

I already have a Mazda Rx-7 FD3S....just bought it 2 months ago. And I guess my extra 13B S4 Turbo engine will be of no use as I have read here that its not worth the hassle to install the S4 FC engine as an extra engine in the future in my Rx-7 FD. Maybe Ill be using the engine in my upcoming Mazda pickup.

But the bad thing is that the 13B turbo S4 FC engine I got from a Japanese importer is with an automatic transmission and not the manual type

Anyway many Thanks

I want to upgrade my 13B FD engine to megasquirt MS1 V3 engine management system. Is is really tested already to use the two original CAS sensors to trigger the megasquirt? I got confused regarding the thread about the 13B FD engine in a Volks bug.

Theres no solid write up(with pics) yet of the application of megasquirt systems with 13B FD engines.

Im a little familiar with megasquirt...I am using two....one in my Mazda Z5 DOHC and a Mazda FE3 2.0 DOHC engine. But Im new to rotary engines....I want to make sure that the 2 factory CAS can be used with megasquirt before I start the project.

Many Thanks

there are some really good threads on here about depowering the steering rack. But I have read that some people like the steering with just removing the pump.

S4 engine to S6 body

I was thinking of still using my S4 13B Turbo engine in my Mazda Rx-7 FD....

And being that the mounting points is different...

Can I simply modify the oil pan to shape like a 13B-REW oil pan and machined, drill, tap holes for the engine support of the FD on the S4 Rear Iron plate? Has anyone did this?

I will just toy with this S4 turbo engine than just it lying around in my garage.

I plan on using megasquirt for it.

The opposite has been discussed before..mounting a 13B-REW engine in an FC
