12a starting help !!!!!
i bought the 1985 12a rx7 when i start the car i have to use the choke every time its not cold out here ???? also it idle steady at 200 rpms rouph idles exhuast pops every few seconds so i learned how to adjust the holly 4 barrel carb and the popping stoped my main question is should i leave it alone right now its steady at 1800 rpm or should i start over
Stock, the motor should idle nicely around 800 RPM. Try adjusting the idle on the carb and look for any vacuum leaks.
What Holley are you running? Also, is there any modifications to the engine?

its a new holly 4 barrel carb thanks lots ive be researching and i think its ported maybe not i know there is no way to tell i turned the idle screw the lowest i could get it is at 1800 rpms sounds way better than it did at 200 i'll make a video if any are interested
If it's ported, that will effect the idle. The general rule of thumb is, the bigger the port, the higher the idle. Not necessarily by much though. A big street port should still idle around 1,000 RPM. It's when you go bridge port that idle speeds jump to 1500 RPMs and higher if the port is that big.
Carb size will also make a big difference. If its any bigger then a 600 CFM on anything smaller then a full bridge port. Its not goin to run at %100.
Generally the more obvious is vacuum leaks. Just a small vacuum leak can cause a high idle problem like the one you are describing.

I'm going to go with either a oversized carb or a full bridge port. Both would cause a high idle. If it's a full bridge, it's going to idle high because of port overlap. An oversized carb can cause a high idle and loss of power.
so should i set it back to the way it was 2000 rpms or try to get it a low as i can also i think the gas tank cover release is broken any ideas on how to open where is it anyway i looked everywhere
You want the idle low as possible while remaining smooth and steady.
The gas cover release is next to the chock cable. On the dash left of the steering wheel. If it doesn't pop by just hitting the switch try putting a small amount of pressure on the door while hitting the switch. When you hear a pop behind the door, let go immediately. It should pop open then.

ok thanks i'll start over and see still have to do a few thing s bleed brakes and check the steering and suspension will post a new vid of the idle i need help to see if its right fd3s i'm not sure if its bridgeported or not
i'm not convinced it's a bridge. however, on the off-chance that it is, you have A LOT of work to do before it will be worth a damn in terms of driving. it's time for investigation and troubleshooting.
Dude listen to the idle it goes wap wap wap wap and that's what a bridgeport does. Everything is fine don't worry with it. It'll be fine
dude .... you are aware that bridges aren't the only things that make that sound right, particularly when it's not as dramatic/prominent? as I said, i'm not convinced. he needs to confirm, and pray that it is not because there is much work to be done if it is.
so it begs the question; if you are aware, then why so assertive? why state it like you're so sure? if it sounds ported to YOU, then that's fine but leading him the conclusion that it's a "full bridge port, so it's alright, just leave it alone," is not only irresponsible, but it could be downright wrong. your first input to this thread was to check the TPS ... remember that one?
none of us (myself included) can sit here are state what this particular guy has. for all we know the choke is still on and the adjustments are way off. solving some problems just takes time.
