1 psi of Boost

Hello I just recently bought a 1993 Fd Rx7. I am only getting 1psi of boost through the whole rpm band. I have done a lot of searching and reading about manifold cracks and bad turbos or a boost leak. I am just trying to grasp the way this seq twin system works. I am wondering what would be suspect to cause such a huge boost leak in this system. or can something be stuck in it not allowing the turbo to boost. chime in please and thanks as I am new to the FD.

sounds like you definitely have a big Boost leak somewhere in the intake. Most likely a hose or coupling popped off.

Happened to me a week or two As well. I took the intercooler and its pipings off and cleaned off all the oil from it. Check for cracks and holes in the piping and intercooler itself and reconnect. Worked for me. Maybe worth your time too.

Bumping the thread. If it is the intercooler what are some good options for a direct fit SMIC for the car. With a budget in mind. The intercooler looks oily in the lower left corner of it.

Did you take out the pipings etc too? How much oil did you find overall? My car came with a front mount set up. But people tend to lean towards the v mount intercooler for reasons im not familiar with. However from what i know, you do have to buy new radiator to allow the fitting of v mount. So it can be more expensive. Good luck!

I Have not taken the intercooler off yet. I am going to try and check it in the am tom. I may try and use a smoke machine from the local college. I just hope that the turbos aren't fried!!! It is all stock and does appear that someone started to do a vacuum hose job on the car as two or three of the hoses are blue silicone. But majority of them are stock.

Hi there -

Ah - the world of turbo trouble shooting is a complex one. But the system is not too complex once you get your head a round it. Have a read of the FSM here:

http://wright-here.net/files/manuals...highlights.pdf

Look at pages F21 onwards.

This is also a good link on the turbo system only

Troubleshooting

All the best.

Red face

Is this hole enough to bleed off 9psi? Looks like someone put the wrong bolt in the intercooler mount. It drilled a hole in the Intercooler.

Sorry to bump but has anyone seen the pic? I was wondering if this hole could be big enough to only make 1 psi of boost?

please do a boost leak

this will tell you exactly where the leak is coming from. if it's coming from that hole. you will definitely hear and feel it (if you put your hand over it).

I know the hole is def leaking. I capped both ends of the intercooler and blew smoke from a cig into it. Smoke started pouring out this hole. I'm just wondering if this hole is enough leak to only give me 1 psi of boost

it's an hell of a hole.....

You are talking about 4-6-8 bolt hole?

I don't know if you have only this problem, but that hole can definitively kill your boost

check the obvious places first , after the Y pipe the pipe that gets the air from both turbos and converts it into 1 pipe therei s a rubber coupler that coupler has a tendancy to get brittle , and break , and leak air check that first take it off inspect it , and replace it if needed . if its NOT that then check everything from therere to the TB

Side note ( I'm not sure I havent looked at my stock IC in a long time ) BUUT liek stated if you can put your finger on it and feel vacume or air comming out when someone revs the car that may be your issue .

as for stock mounts. there are a few options , only thign is make sure you get a duct for the according intercooler , stock mount intercooler without a duct is almost useless
