Whos doing a rebuild!!??

Just curious of who is about to do a rebuild in the nova area and if it would be possible for me to shadow and pick your brain!
Only reason I ask is because I am going to attempt my first rebuild shortly here and would like to see how it is done by someone that has been through a few.
Thanks!

Buy a rebuild dvd from any of the known rotary shops.

I just got my copy of the RA video and also have the Atkins rebuild video as well. Personally, I would feel more confident rebuilding once I've had the chance to watch a bit in person and pick their brain for knowledge!

Thanks for the advice and input!

Here is some advice I learned during my rebuild this winter, and I only watched AaronCakes video and the Mazdatrix DVD, so I am not aware of what was in the other videos:

Label where each nut and bolt came from (ziplock bag), that way when you put it back together you don't waste a lot of time finding which one fits. Or end up misplacing one.

Are you doing a full rebuild? And which kit are you getting? You might want to wait to order the rebuild kit until you have your engine in pieces to see what parts are still within spec.

Be prepared to spend more time and effort cleaning parts than actually rebuilding the engine. I found that simple green and scotch pad worked great along with a brash wire wheel.

When all else fails you can post pictures on here with a question and people are usually very helpful.

Block is already tore down, a buddy tore down the engine and hasnt had time to rebuild it. Hopefully, everything is labeled good.

Thanks for the advice, Ill head out to and pick up a dremel with a wire wheel or see if my buddy will let me use his shop to use his parts cleaner sink thing.

I plan on taking some absurd amount of pictures as I go through and ask any questions here if needed.

Well, picked up my car and engine bits. So far its looking like I'll need atleast 2 side seals, one 3mm corner seal. Still have yet to check clearances and what not so who knows yet. The cleaning shall commence!

Also need an e-shaft and gasket/o-ring set because a certain individual failed to return them to me..... party!

Its not that hard. Just do it by the book. Just clean everything and check everything over twice.

Evening all! About to upload some photos of the tore down engine and see how it looks. Over all I dont feel any groves or pitting in the housings or side plates. Not really sure what else to be looking for.

Any input would be great!

Update:
Link to the photos!

On the rotor housing you want to be looking for edge wear mostly and uneven wear patterns, check to see if the coating has come off and where it has come off on the housings also look for deep scratches.
Check the rotors for V ing in the apex seal groves, check for blow by spots on the rotors,
dents in the rotors and check for broken or binding seals. Check the corner springs and side seal spring to see if they are in spec, check the bearing for excessive wear and chafing along with the E shaft. Download a shop manual with all the measurements and check every thing twice and you will do a good job. Next the best advice i can give you and what has always saved me is, WHEN IN DOUBT THROW IT OUT and get new ones. I use a sharpening stone and oil to do my side seals. If you hold the seal at a 45 degree angle it will give you the proper angle on the edge when doing them. Just read the shop manual before watching the videos. It will all make sense. There is more but I would be here for way to long. If you have any more questions just PM me.
