Stolen Car Alert: 240sx in Pittsburgh, PA
My friend had his 93 240sx at a shop in downtown Pittsburgh waiting for a new turbo manifold. He called the shop today to find out that the car has not been there for almost a week and a half, and they just thought he came and picked it up during the night. If anyone see's anything similar to this stuff for sale on forums or eBay, let me know. Thanks guys.
Phone conversation with the shop:
So these guys had the only set of keys and assumed he just picked it up....even when they told him to call when he was coming down, so that someone would be there to help him out. It was behind the shop, in front of a fence so if you didn't know the car was there, you couldn't find it.

What kind of shop is this? They must not care about their reputation or the risk of them being shut down because of a thing like this.
How can they just say, "o, call your insurance company". If anything, they should be MORE worried than you.
Its def a scam on you, do something ASAP!

How to Handle the Claim
I'm a licensed insurance agent in Pennsylvania. The garage is legally liable for vehicles in there care, custody and control. They should have purchased Garagekeepers Liability insurance to cover the potential loss by theft (among other things).
I would contact the garage and tell them you want to file a claim against there insurance company. If they refuse to file a claim, I would file a claim against your own insurance company - informing them of the garages unwillingness to file a claim or not having the insurance.
You will then be paid by your insurance company minus the deductible. Your insurance company will then subrogate the claim against the garage or the garages insurance carrier. When they get paid you will then receive a check back for your deductible.
In PA a stolen car is considered a non-chargable claim and they cannot raise your rates if you must file against your insurance.
If the garage will not file the claim I would also contact the better business bureau and any other membership based organizations they are involved with and file a complaint.
Contacting a lawyer is the last thing you need to do in this case. Your insurance company will do the work to get your/their money back.
eMail me if you have any questions.

Thanks for the info! Thanks to my posting on forums, a shop owner in Indiana, PA was reading the thread on a regional forum and realized that he had all of the parts sitting on his shop floor. A kid came in and said he rolled the car and needed to get rid of the parts. State Police found the kid, but have yet to make an arrest because he has some story that seems like BS. The body of the car has still yet to be found.
Regardless of responsibility of property, I know that if I own a shop and a car I had dissapears, I wouldn't "just assume" that the owner picked it up overnight. I would call and check. The fact that they didn't leads me to think that they had something to do with the theft.
