Arrow Sept. 29th, 2012 Chris Carlisi Memorial BBQ & Track Day Official Information Thread

It's that time of year again....the FIFTH Annual Carlisi Memorial Event is upon us

For those that have attended in past years, the event will largely be the same with a few key additions:

(1) This year you will have the option to sign up for a day on the Lightning course, with four 20-25 minute sessions with Instructors riding along. Beginners are encouraged!

(2) There will be a focus around Chris and his love of RX-7s as well as some basic education around Diabetes.

One other important change is to the method of payment. To register, please paypal $20 per car and $10 per additional passenger (children are free) to: ChrisCarlisiMemorial@yahoo.com. If you'd like a T-Shirt, please include $15 per shirt along with the size you'd like. List your full name, forum name, email address, and short description of your rotary steed. All profits benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

Please subscribe to this thread and check periodically as I'll be updating this initial post with new information.

Here is a thread with pics from one of the past year's events to give you an idea of the caliber of cars that have attended (and the huge amount of fun we had!):

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...thread-919932/

MORE IMPORTANT INFO!!

Here is the track address for mapquests and GPS:

Directions how to get to New Jersey Motorsports Park | New Jersey Motorsports Park

Please feel free to check out the NJMP site and learn more about the track and the great events that they hold there all year long.

NOTES OF INTEREST:

1>>>Tracking is available both Saturday and Sunday, one or both days
2>>>If you plan to track the car it's highly recommended to have the car inspected at a reputable shop to ensure the brakes/suspension/drivetrain are in good working order. If you fail the required trackside tech inspection you will not be allowed on track!
3>>>Please come with a full tank of fuel, gas stations are not very close to the track and the fuel on track is a bit pricey
4>>>If you have one, bring a folding canvas chair to sit on as aside from the bleachers seating will be limited
5>>>We will be asking for qualified volunteers to assist in the mandatory early-morning Tech session which will be required for all those going on track

****There have been some changes to the timeline so please take a look****

TIMELINE:

Saturday September 29th
8 AM **Gates Open
10 AM **Car Show Judging Begins
12 noon **Lunchtime

PLEASE NOTE that the track sign-up form and track session schedule will be available SOON

ALSO, we will very soon have information on the recommended hotel to stay at, with preferred rates for our group.

In the meantime, here is a link with more information and a track map of Lighting available via PDF:

I know the track schedule still needs to be posted yet, but are the track fees known? I am assuming that is not covered by the $20 event fee?

Track fees will be $200 for each day (Sunday is available also) which includes an instructor for the day. This is for four 20-25 minute sessions each day, and is a very good value. The link just became live, for those who plan to get on track please post in the thread after you sign up

How should we be submitting payment? Payment owed? It's trying to take out paypal fees. I thought charity accounts don't pull fees though. I'll submit payment as soon as my questions are answered!!!!

Scrub/SBG 2 guests and a Scrubby sized shirt.

Hopefully Heath will be making a guest appearance this year.

In addition to raffling off a set of our Bi-xenon headlights we're going to try and bring a few more little goodies

I think I'm signed up and good to go. There was no confirmation, so I'm not positive. I'll call tomorrow to verify. If all goes well I'll have some new track wheels with some Kuhmo V710's ready to rock!

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone next month! I'll be bringing some family members with me as well

I think the track allows BBQ's so maybe we can work on getting a few portable grills and some food/drinks.

Tom, the shirt design looks great! Love the color combo! The only thing I think It's missing is a rotor or some sort of rotary symbol. Just my .02 cents

+1 on adding a rotary theme to the t-shirt. Very nice though.

Rich, one of the highlights of the past events was the "cruise" portion. It's always a good time going out with fellow rotary heads and cruising around. Any thoughts on adding this back in? For those not tracking, it's a great way of getting out.

I also note you list as a "new key addition" for this year, "(2) There will be a focus around Chris and his love of RX-7s as well as some basic education around Diabetes."

I'd say that has always been the one and only focus of the event wouldn't you?

Sometimes change is good. While previous years the event was held at Gordons house, the only option for us was to go out for a drive around some back roads. This year the event location had to change. People are more than welcome to go out on a cruise, however the roads aroud NJMP are mostly flat and straight (no fun). IMO, I have been on previous year cruise's and they were largely unorganized with people getting lost and near miss accidents due to a large line of cars stopping short trying to make a turn last minute.

With the event being at NJMP we have a safe controlled manner to get our cars out on track. For those that cannot afford it, or dont have track prepped cars my understanding is that there will be ride alongs offered and a pace lap style opportunity for people to get their cars out on track where they can enjoy RX-7's going fast legally and safely.

Yes, that's been part of the plan - just haven't gotten that far yet. All the rotor graphics I had previously made just didn't fit with the design, so I'm trying something else - that's why it says "design might change slightly but will be close to this".

+1 to that. I never understood the point of "the cruise" - the pack always ends up getting broken up at the first stop light, and people got lost every year. You only get a view of the guy in front of you and the guy in your rear view...might as well be sitting in traffic. lol

I've started to organize some pre-meet tailgating/cruising to arrive at the event in style/mass. That might help appease the urge to cruise during the event. A facebook event is being used to coordinating with other groups to meet up at pre define locations.

We have a lot of invites to the group so far and I can post a link to it once I get home from work. (No FB access at work).

I agree that one must always embrace change. I like the track addition. Brought up the cruise idea because you know how it gets at a track. There is a lot of action around driving and then everyone sits around for the rest of the day. For those that don't track, I'd think there could be another option.

As for ride alongs, that is with instructors only right? So I'd say this isn't a great option for the majority of the crowd as there won't be enough instructors for all. Absolute fun for those that can go out, but I'm thinking of those that won't track. Maybe the "pace style" option would suffice here as that would be fun. And the money going to charity would be great oo.

Not speaking for me here, if I can make it, I'm on the track

Thanks for doing this. Great idea and nice solution to the "cruise" event.

I had just as much fun in the paddocks as I did on the track. I wish I could come up but I have a mini me making an appearance today. Y'all have fun.

Can I donate and just get a shirt? Answer is probably in the thread but I don't wanna look.

Congrats on the baby. Exciting times for you guys. In your absence I'll "borrow" a few parts off of your car. That's okay right?

Anyone run with this group before? Do they allow open passing in the advanced groups (or, at the very least unrestricted point-bys)? No passengers at all?

I have not run with this group before so I'm not really sure about open passing, but we can ask and get a definite answer. They most definitely do unrestricted point-bys in advanced groups though...I'd be shocked if they didn't do that at the very least.

It's my understanding that we can have passengers in the higher run groups.

I'd like to do both days but work will get in the way on Sunday unfortunately.
