The search for a RX-3!

Ok so ive managed to brainwash the GF into a rotor head. A good thing and a bad thing.

Well the numerous times I’ve drug her over to Jim’s shop she stands there and drools over his RX-3. I mean its like looking @ one of us staring @ a 3 rotor.

Currently shee drives a Mini Cooper S, checklist car but her lease ends in 5 months. Well long story short after Saturdays meet she’s like do you think you could find me a RX-3. I let her know odds are thin to find something that shees looking for but if we find one that needs work I can get it together.. She goes well how about I pay, you build it up how you think I would like it, I just want to drive it every day.

So now im in the market for yet another project. Does anyone know of any Rx-3’s for sale in the area? In the region? I realize no matter what I find it will need work, but im up for the work.

Ill have to give Jim a call, I heard him(guy with the rx2) saying something about one but @ that point I hadn’t realized the Girl was feeling that Rotor Craving.

Something told me to get his info, I was just hung over and the brain wasn’t @ full speed

You just missed this super mint one in Delaware:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1973-...QQcmdZViewItem

Not sure if he sold it or not, the bids were up to almost 10k at one point (totally worth it IMO). He has a phone number listed so its worth a try.

I've been looking for an RX-3 for several years. A few pop-up from time to time in NJ or NY, usually drag projects. Your best bets as far as availability are either Florida or California, paying a grand to ship a solid car from these places, rather than a potentially rusty one from the East Coast is definitely worth it. With something like this, you just have to be patient. Good luck.

I kind of figured someone snatched it up, it was the cleanest/most original RX-3 I've ever seen for sale, something you can't pass up. 13k is very reasonable as you'll likely never seen one like that again. I can foresee good examples surpassing FDs in value, in the not-too-distant future.

Keep checking collectorcartraderonline.com as well, a few pop-up from time to time.

I asked him to, he was like "it’s been with me for 2 long, I don’t know what id do without it" I didn’t press the issue from there.

I found one on e-bay and they guys in Vineland, so I’m heading tomorrow to check it out. its fully restored with a fresh engine in it (bridge port with holly 600), they guy said he has about 13k into it, looking to get back what he put in, it’s a bit steep even for a complete car, but the GF is a baller so coming up with the coin is not a issue.

I saw the pics of the same one you saw on Ebay and that thing looks NICE! If your girl can afford it then ******* get it! I wan't an old school RX also, but I'm just a broke military guy and can't afford that yet. Maybe after I get out of the military in 10 years or so.

Jim isn't going to sell his rx3. At least I don't think so. These cars are super hard to find. The Puerto Ricans will spend the money no-matter what it costs. I think they will sell their first born to get an old school rx. If he paid 13,000 he could get double that in PR.

Actually going to look @ the white one tomorrow, apparently it’s the wife’s car, but she put hubby on the phone to talk with me. The one in Vineland is super clean but not perfect, way I see it for anything over 11k it better be 100%. There were a lot of little things I was surprised they “skimped on” plus the guy whos selling it went from 13 the day b4 on the phone to 13,500 when I got down there… not even gonna get into the negotiations since he said someone from Brooklyn is coming down to look at it.

It didn’t idle like a bridge port, the wiring job would need to be re-done, still has the stock rear. Looks like the painted over rust in a few spots…...could go into more but wont

White ones supposedly a 13b bridge, but well see tomorrow. Thanks for keeping an eye out fella’s. I’m really thinking I want to a roller, or one minus engine and trans. Since the GF would be driving it I would much rather run a EFI with my Haltech running it ( this way I can get a tec 3)

Thanks again

Ah yes a "small" turbo down the road would be nice. LoL..

figure with a mild bridge, low 200 in hp, with sub 2k curb weight= lotsa fun

Figure when I’m ready to take the next jump, ill just put the 465RWHP setup I have in my fd and put it all in there. But convincing her I need 2 dedicated race cars might be a big tough. It’s too bad she doesn’t have the nerves for racing, she’d be awesome.
