New Va. Governor proposals

He's calling them "user fees" and legislative proposals include:

*Increase taxes on gas (8.5%)
*Increase tax on diesel fuel
*New tolls/increase tolls
*Increase in registration fees
*New 5% tax on car repairs
*Tax car insurance policies
*Fines on top of regular citation/fines
1050.00 Reckless driving
2200.00 DUI

Call your rep and stop this crap.

The President isn't the problem. We have a budget surplus.

Tim Kaine.. right??

Well I see he does have a plan for VA's traffic problem.

Increase fees and costs, until only the rich can afford to drive in VA.
What a plan.

Glad I don't live in Virginia. Sounds like communism to me. Next they will issue you cars with mandated usage.

So true.

Chris, I thought the tolls already went up?

I know the 495 extension (widening it another 2 lanes each way IIRC) is gonna be based on making those a HOV-3 or even more lanes, OR you pay a hefty toll to use them... geared toward mass transportation....and the rich lol.

Speaking of which, anyone know what the deal is w/ the plans for the Metro? They originally were gonna extend it all the way to Dulles Airport, w/ 3 stops in Tysons, some in Herndon, Sterling, Reston, etc. Then I heard that the angle was too steep, so they scrapped the plans, and were gonna put the railway raised above the ground (kinda like in major cities). But ppl complained that it would be an eyesore, so they scrapped that plan. Are back to the underground Metro plan again? And if so, how they getting around it?

Lastly...Fines on top of regular citation/fines: 1050.00 Reckless driving. WHAT THE ... I mean COME ON. God Damnit man...what am I made of gold? This is SERIOUSLY getting out of hand. It's bad enough they made HOV violations MOTION violations, AND a maximum fine of $1000. How and why are we sitting quietly taking this crap?!?!

Wow, those proposals are terrible. Except for the DUI one... I have no sympathy for drunk drivers.

It is fairly easy to keep up with legislation, find out who you legislators are, and track how they voted. Start here:
http://leg1.state.va.us/lis.htm

Many of these odious laws would never get on the books if more people paid attention to what was going on and let the law makers know how they feel.

Your legislators work for you. But don't just give them an earful; be proactive and build a relationship. There are plenty of opportunities to meet and get to know them. (Some of them are even in car clubs.)

Car clubs are one way to alert and mobilize a lot of people. Try writing letters to the editors of newspapers, and let the news media know about issues.
