Arrow My tuning experience with Enzo Racing out on Long Island

I travelled out to North Bay Shore this past saturday to have Enzo tune my FD, and came away very happy with the experience.

He was knowledgeable, accommodating, friendly, and very reasonably priced. The session lasted the better part of the day with frequent cool down periods in between runs, with low and high boost tuning taking place. He answered all my questions and treated my FD with extreme attention and care.

Driveability is excellent, and boost response and overall power production was much better than I expected. On high boost the car is faster than any pump gas street FD I have yet to drive, which surprised the hell out of me . The car made very good numbers, some of the best I've heard of out of the 500R setup. 440 rwhp at 15.5 psi and 487 at 20 psi.

It's a relief to have found a local tuner who satisfies all my requirements..... over the last ten years many good people have tuned my car, so when I say that Enzo is the best yet it really means something.

I had heard good things about him and sent a customer over, who came away raving about the experience. I plan to recommend him to all of our customers after they break in their new engines

His website for those looking for more information is www.Enzo-Racing.com.

I also had a blast hanging with AnthonyNYC, Roen/SpeedNYC, Ernie T, Roy, and my brother/cameraman Ryan.

A video of the high boost dyno run, and a short clip of the car on the highway:

(edit: note that I did not post these videos..... I don't consider my FD 'badass,' and that's a 4th gear pull)

I'm glad you had a great experience with Enzo. He is a supremely knowledgable tuner and one hell of a nice guy. I made the trip to L.I. last April for a base tune and after a couple of fuel upgrades I'll be flying him up to buffalo next Thursday to tune. I can't wait to see the results!!!!

^Haha, well now that Rich is actually putting out some serious numbers, his tranny was not able to keep up with the torque and stripped some grears while doing a 3rd gear pull on high boost.

Enzo was also nice enough to put my car on the dyno after a long day of tunning my brother's car and being up till 4am the pervious day. I was very grateful that he was willing to sqeeze me in late at night b/c come to find out, my base tune was actually a little lean and the timing was too advanced. Enzo added in some fuel and backed off the timing and now the tune is nice and conservitive and the car still made the same hp as when it was lean.

Thanks again Enzo, the car really is a blast to drive now! I will definietly be bringing my car back when my brother's car isn't there to hog up all his time .

It was great meeting and hanging out with Anthony, Ernie T, Roan, and all the other guys.

Just want to bring this back to the top, I recently roadraced my FD at Monticello Raceway on the 15 psi setting and the car ran like a top, the tune is spot on and numerous people commented on how healthy my FD sounded flying down the straights

I'd have to agree, Enzo is the man. I went there for a tune and spent quite a few hours there, he was very thorough going over everything, car runs like a top and makes good power to boot (383whp on 12.5psi) They finally opened an E85 station up by me, so once I get the fuel system redone I'm heading back down to him for a retune and some high boost (better than the 14.5 I"m running now).

Hi guys,

I just wanted to introduce myself, as a new West Coast new comer. I relocated here 2 yrs ago from LA and have been trying to find a forum for RX7 enthusiasts and I came across the site. I just wanted to know if there are gatherings or events that happen around the NY area? All in all, I just wanted to make some new friends in my new environment. Thanks

Just ran across this thread. I met Enzo a few years back when he helped setup our Dyno Dynamics dyno in Los Angeles. He is truly a knowledgeable and friendly person. I am not surprised you got such great results from you experience with Enzo.

Holy **** what can I say about Enzo. The guy is definitely busy and has alot of experience with rx7s.

His whole schedule this week was rx7, rx7, rx7, rx7
His next week was <-----Jamaica----->

Someone actually spent the money to bring him there to tune a BMW M3 (e36) race car. Right now the car is just a chassis but Enzo will be modifying a harness in Jamaica so he can tune the car and take some laps in the car to refine the tune even further after (hopefully) it has been put together. If someone is willing to pay you to fly somewhere far away even at the risk of missing a deadline to tune due to a race car not being put together fast enough, you have to be doing something right.

As everyone has said, Enzo is a personable and knowledgeable. He had alot going on the day I came in but he still took his time tuning my car. Enzo told me about his equipment and answered all of my questions throughout the day. Enzo is running on a mainline 1800 awd and using sensors expensive enough to buy a car with. He certainly does not mess around when it comes to toys. The wall behind the dyno itself is a testament to all the cars that have been in the shop in the past. I thought the wall was actually painted black but upon closer inspection, it looked like soot from a chimney. Enzo even had groupees stop by at random times to give him props. RESPEKT. Along with enjoying watching Enzo rip on my car and being able to hear every sound the car makes up close while the car is stationary (FSHHHHHH PSSHHHHHHH) it was cool watching him tuning with the datalogit. I was super impressed with the precision that was allowed to him by being able to control the load on the dyno easily from within the car. Enzo was able to slowly walk from cell to cell changing values at whim after he got a base tune going. He also quickly managed to figure out how to mess with my boost controller and get my aquamist HFS1 + rx7 summer (which acted up the whole day) working well enough that he can perform the tune. The rx7 summer and the aquamist system was a HUGE worry for me and when the dds3v10 failsafe started acting up I thought I was screwed but Enzo powered through.

After the tune as I was driving home, I noticed a boat load of difference in the way the car boosted. The car boosted very smoothly and with urgency. My FD hasn't felt that fast in a long time (running @8psi pre tune). It certainly put a smile on my face. The lower RPMs felt as smooth as butter (it was rought before) and the car felt extremely refined. I was very happy with everything. Enzo's tune was the final missing piece of my build. The AFRs were well behaved during the drive and I even seemed to cut my gas usage almost in half. With all emissions (except the precat) the car made 308+ rwhp @12psi. I'm sure it would have made more had the AI not been acting up and if we made more runs but hey, not bad for a car with a fairly restrictive exhaust and a stock cat.

Here are some haikus detailing my experience during the day.

Enzo is tuning
Eyes burning from gasoline
I'm getting hungry

Smells like gas in here
My tacos taste like exhaust
Worth every penny

Car is fast again
Enzo is knowledgable
It's time for deals gap!

Thank you IRP for building the car. Thank you Enzo racing for finishing it all up. Sorry for the lack of pictures but my car is the dirtiest it has ever been from the trip to LI in the bad weather and it was just to embarassing to post.

Welcome...I came here about 4.5 years ago. I want to bring my fd over but the bad weather here and parking costs are keeping me from pulling the trigger.

BTW...the FD sounds amazing w/ the tune.

Hey guys, just wanted to post some info. For people using a GPS, you may have problems getting to Enzo's. There are two Madison ave. and mine took me to the wrong one. If you type in Enzo's shop address and you are in the burbs, you are at the wrong spot. Type this instead...

580 Pine aire drive

It's still close to the shop so its not to out of the way.

Is it simple to schedule time to visit Enzo? Is there a waiting list for his services? Once I have my rims and tires on the car I plan on enlisting his services. But any information before hand would be extremely helpful. For example, is there anything else I need to bring besides the car?

Make sure the car is ready to be tuned, ie with a full tank of gas (and premix), fresh oil, and new spark plugs of the right heat range. A lot is based on what boost levels you want him to tune you for.

IRP has sent Enzo quite a few customer cars at this point and Ihor's been very happy with the level of service. Reasonable prices from an honest guy, and it's great for the shop to know that all of the fresh engine builds are in the hands of a true professional
