Agree. My experience is with the FD. I have a friend that had an FC that got nearly 200,000 miles on his engine.

Thinking of buying low mileage third generation - any recommendations on Baltimore area mechanics?

why not yourself?
Down in Glen Burnie there's a shop called Alpine, they used to do a LOT of rotary stuff in the 90's and early 2000's. they pressed new bearings in my half bridge about a year ago and still have all of their rotary tools and some of the older techs still know what they're doing.

a stupid clean FD popped up on ebay in Ellicott city.
no im not going to buy this one ....lol well probably not.
he's firm at 18, i think it's worth it. 1 owner, older man whose very careful with it. stored inside, door edge guards, bra... speed1 in PA has done all the work to it, factory ac that works (but he said the system has a leak somewhere). Carfax checks out. thing looks pretty minty!
Only thing i dont know is compression numbers. Im going to take a look at it tomorrow in person and get some underside / rail / wheel well pics. well worth 18 imo for a super well taken care of 1 owner turn key R1 FD.
Thoughts ?

That does look like a screaming good deal given what clean FDs are selling for on BaT lately. I'm tempted to be all over this, only thing holding me back is lack of garage space - don't want to displace my FC & newish daily driver!. Have you seen the car in person yet? 131,xxx K miles is a little high, but ad says a new engine went in at ~ 50K miles, so it's a driver not a collector's item. The other thing I'm not sure of is if it's a base model or a real R1 model?

That is nice looking, and appears to have all of the R1 goodies.

If you are seriously considering it, see it in person and pull the battery tray. The guy is running a wet battery, which is a terrible idea, and some FD's have rusted badly under the battery tray from acid vapors/leaks.

well ****.
Can confirm it's a real R1, can confirm it's now in my garage, bought to sell but this thing is STUPID CLEAN. guy is 71 years young, and was **** about keeping it clean. underside is SPOTLESS, pinchwelds look like they've never been touched by a jack, all work has only ever been done by Speed1 in Allentown except he said the turbo's were rebuilt by a company called C Tech in pasadena? i have their number but never heard of them and cant find anything online ? gonna call and see what i can find out.
Red has a beautiful shine, he has door trim (like what you buy from pep boys to protect your door edge) on both doors, all around the hood and hatch lol
interior is clean, no cracks anywhere and EVERYTHING WORKS! (except ac i guess? i'll have to find the system leak),, truely a VERY clean driver car. turbo's were rebuilt and she pulls! idk if ive seen an rx7 this clean in person if im being honest. i had to have it lol
i'll upload pics tomorrow/weekend.

there's a GREAT spot by me that's freshly blacktopped with no yellow lines on it that S turns though the woods, would be a great spot for some fall pics - shyt it'll look like a shot from forza haha. gonna toss my '85 tags on it and put insurance on her at the least to drive over there but i wont be registering it til at least spring if i keep it

Congrats! You beat me to it - I was in contact with the guy, but life/work got in the way before I could get a chance to inspect it & make an offer.

thanks guys, but the female (who really wears the pants) is nagging about "we need a house" blah blah,,, ive been trying to explain to her that you cant race a house but you can sleep in a car. she's not having it, sigh. may have to relist... i'd REALLLLLY like to keep it so i may do a bad job selling it so i can at least enjoy it for a few months lol
it's worth all of 18, shoot it's worth all of 22k! thing is dumb clean. steering wheel and shift **** is a little worn and passenger window switch doesnt lift the window up (but driver side does), so just a few small minor things that should be easy to replace and bring up the interior to the quality of the rest of the car

Hi all. I too would be interested of learning of reputable mechanics/shops in MD area. Saw the ones also posted above.
i live in Bel Air and work in Baltimore city and county.
went thru college with 2 FBs and own a 95 FD #313 silver. Just hit 37,300 miles today. I bought it back in 2010 with 36k on it. Orig owner lived in Fla and had Pettit Racing redo turbos and some engine tweaking at 10kmiles

Sounds like you're sitting on a jackpot! pics??
i just bumped the sticky above this post, "all mechanics in the NE area" with the following:

update for MD shops:
Alpine auto in Glen burnie still does some work... they pressed rotor bearings for me about 2 years ago or so, i.e. they still have the mechanics AND TOOLS to do the work, there just isnt the demand anymore so they dont advertise it.
Idek if unique precision out in western MD is a thing anymore...
Speed 1 in PA is closing up, or closed
angel motorsport is great, but give or take 2.5-6 hours away depending where in MD you are
Miller speed an performance - mostly nissan and toyota, they're drifters and know their stuff. idk if they'd work on a rotary, but i dont see why not? they took over the import shop there that used to work on rotaries so i'd like to think they may have acquired some rotary tools when they bought the spot
https://www.yelp.com/biz/miller-spee...ce-glen-burnie
idt any mazda shop will touch a rotary anymore, if they do it would probably be $$$ lol
i havent talked to John Kearney in about 2 years, im not sure of his current status. last i was there he was selling his racecar Rx3 and planning on selling 1 or 2 of his FC racecars. he still have a LOT of parts though, awesome shop. i believe he's still in business and is a wealth of knowledge. right outside (or inside?) of the east side of 495 around DC. - Kearney racing // kearney automotive

Looking forward to seeing the FD I missed! I'll be at Hunt Valley this Saturday too, weather permitting - look for my black '89T2. What's the deal with Burtonsville on Sunday? Never heard of that one, is it a regular C&C meet or something?

yup just another cars and coffee. it's in burtonsville town center and runs year round sunday mornings - weather permitting.

Same with annapolis C&C, year round. 1 dock street, usually only 20 cars or so, smaller lot but nice location and close for me - 15 mins ish. burtonsville runs me about 30-35 mins and HVHP is 40-45 ish
