This is OT...

Hi I'm Ken, I've been hanging out with some of the people on here at the garage on and off for a while now... Just thought I'd drop in and post now that I found this thread.

I'll be at the garage tomorrow...

I was driving at 130 in 5th for about 5-10 min one time and went through a quarter tank (4.5 gallons?) so yeah.. by my calculations I was getting a wopping 4.8 mpg . lol, yeah, I need to clean my injectors.

you can really see it on the last 1/4 of a tank. one day i was leaving work with 1/4 tank left. i'd figure i would drive home and i could probably make it to work for the next day at least. nope. i'm not even 1/2 way home and the needle gets lower and lower and lower....

welcome ken. my buddy knows muy thai .. well he's thai. hopefully Ong-Bak come out in theaters here in the US. Tony Jaa is going to be the next Jackie Chan for martial arts movies.

haha muythaibxr is just a handle anymore... I used to do muay thai boxing for about 2 or 3 years... now I just use that as one of my handles.

Thanks for the welcome anyway.

I get 28mpg at ~90mph with the top down and windows open.

I'm estimating once I install the techedge wideband, ported TB, and remove the AFMI will be pulling over 30 mpg.

See that's awesome. You're getting 28mph @ 90mph. if you drove slower .. i know it's a hard concept to grasp .. but if you drove slower .. that would probably be .. 30mph? according to paper estimates (and edmunds) a s5 convertible is suppose to get 17 city / 25 hwy... and you're getting 28.

what you need to do is get a turbo model and see what tricks you've applied to your vert and see if they transfer over to a turbo model. everyone always complains about gas mileage especially for the turbo folks.

just for kicks when i had my escort, i topped off the tank and drove like a granny .. 55 mph everywhere. no sudden acceleration, easy braking. my average miles per tank was 320. driving 55 everywhere ... 470. i was like holy crap.

So my 7 is out of commission yet again... This time the tranny was bork`d. so $1500 for a new tranny and new clutch installed.
Time to get out the dremel and finish porting/polishing so I can save money on gas.

That sucks. I gave away my stock trans last year because it was taking up too much space.

Yes, it could apply to a turbo, but it all depends how you drive, and the turbo will never get the MPG of the N/A.

I race my 'vert EVERYWHERE and it is constanly FULL of trash. I have no weight savings (Xept a lightweight spare). I accelerate like crazy and pull it to redline just to hear the backfires. I get 20 city driving like this.

I have no doubts when the MegaSquirt is installed, my ignition upgrade is complete, and my ported TB is installed, that my MPG will climb to 32 or more highway with the top up at 90mph. City I estimate will be a good 24mpg. Remember, this is a conservitive estimate; considering that I am most likely going full time water injection.

Pulls to the top of third take a lot of gas.

Pulls to the top of fourth . . .

--------

If my engine ever blows, or I get the $$$ and time (Never happening) I will ceramic coat my rotors and jet-hot my whole exhaust system to increase the thermal efficiency just a tad. Plus I will only mildly port most of the ports, the major porting will be on the aux ports.

--------

And hey, whoever it was who said "Sorry about this, but it is OT" or something, DUDE, if you live in or around Maryland, and you post here, its an ON TOPIC POST

Well i recalculated on how many miles i get to a gallon.. i think its about 18-20 on highway.. at average 90.. (i push 100-110 when i see no cops :-D) but i know what yall mean when the gas gauge just keeps going and going with you are riding in one gear for a while... I try to shift at 3K-3.5K.. and it still kills gass.. lets see.. i can travel a perfect!!! 140 miles and will be exactly half tank.. that's when i take highway every were i go.. if i take street.. it'll be 120-126... I think i need some porting.. and Fongs s5 IM... :-P.. anway was this is a good topic..

I'm getting just a hair under 20 hwy, and I drive pretty conservatively from that description (75mph avg w/ medium accel), and I'd love to be getting 25+mpg. I'll have to wrench on it a bit when I get it back from the shop...My vert blew out the water pump on the way to work this morning, so I'm back to my Ford E-150 van for a while. Thankfully I knew it was going, so the temp didn't go above half-way before I got it off the road.

Mega thanks go to Ken who helped me get that Unco alarm out of the GXL. Anyone who wants it (The alarm, not the car) can have it for free.
And cool of Avi to show up with his Celica GT-4
