Looking For A Shop To Do A LSX Conversion

Hey Guys,

I am lookin into getting a V8 conversion done on my FD, just got done blowing my third rotary, and am fed up with it. Anyone know of a good shop that has done the conversion before in the NE area (I know of hinson, but on the off chance that I need to troubleshoot things, I'd rather have someplace close). Also, I know KDR can do it, but on the off chance they're booked up, is there any other place that can reliably do the conversion??

KDR is probably your best bet other than hinson.
Hinson did my car; it was his first customer build in late 04.
KDR did my friends silver car last year.
also post up on http://www.v8rx7forum.com/

what state are you in?
also see my web page for trials and tribulations on my ls1 FD.

Hey 2MP,

Yeah, was thinkin of posting on the V8 forum, just wound up here first. I actually saw you on the V8 forum, and had been wanting to ask you about your car and your thoughts about the conversion. I actually live around where you are (about 15-20 minutes aways from your town).

I thought KDR would be my best bet. I'm gonna make it a street car and I've heard Hinson is heavy into the performance side and I stand a low chance of emissions passing if I have them do it (I'm not sure if this is true though, I've only heard that). Plus the towing cost is probably not gonna be pretty.

I'm still 80% for doing the LS conversion / 20% getting rid of the car. I've been meaning to ask, what were your thoughts after the conversion? How did the car feel? Have you had any reliability issues? Any info would be great dude.

Hey Maverik. Thanks for the offer man, but turns out I'm gonna stick with the rotary for now. Seems what happened is the oil metering pump for the car died, so it died of oil starvation. Since I guess the oil pump had over 100K on it, I guess it makes sense, but I'm hoping that's the last thing that can go on the engine, I can't think of anything else that's not been replaced in the engine bay. Gonna try and give the rotary one last try, and gonna keep my fingers crossed on this one. Hopefully everything will hold up this time, but will have to see.

I just got the chance to get a ride in an LS motored rx7 though, and I think the ride definately swayed me to getting the conversion done, just gonna take my time, build up cash, and buy the engine and whatever I would need to get the job done. Hopefully by next year will have everything together to get all the work done.

Recentlycoverted, I don't know who you usually get to do your rebuilds, but you should seriously hit up IRP in Clifton, NJ. Their work is top notch and they catch a lot of things that most other rotary shops will miss or ignore.

It's good you're not giving up on the rotary just yet And let this be a lesson to all of us with rotaries to always premix whether or not we still have our OMP.

+1 on IRP - You cant go wrong with Ihor and Rich. The work you get for the price you pay cannot be beat and they dont cut any corners.
