Has this ever happened to you???
I bought a set of Falken Azenis. Went to a few tire places to get quotes and to my surprise nobody wanted to mount them. They mostly said the tires are too wide or the wheels are to big...always some bullshit! Anyways, i found a place and got them mounted and balanced!
My front wheels were a little bent, they told me. I said it was to be expected and to just balance them the best they could. Everything went fine untill I got on my way home. Once I got up to about 30mph the steering wheel started shaking. My first thouht, this is no good! I cant drive this thing shaking like this. I figured i'll go back tomorrow and see what they can do about it.
I decide to go to the store to get something to drink. On my way back i'm driviing doing the city speed limit, about 30 again. All of sudden, theres a loud noise, my side of the car drops and theres the loud *** metal draggin on the pavement sound. Split second though, WTF was that???? the ******* tire rolls past my front bumper and keeps going as i pull over. I sat in my FD looking at the tire roll up the hill miss 2 cars and catch the third. It bounces off and now its hoping about 5 feet in the air coming back towards me........NOOOOOO, dont ******* hit me! thats all i could think. Gettin out of the car and stoping it was out of the question. Lucky for my FD it missed by a few feet and landed in a bush.
My FD looked like a damn low rider. I had ******* run my *** home grab the jacks and go back to try and lift the car. I got it done. Got the car home. lifted it looked around and theres no damage. Just a few scratches on the pan, cross member and the sway bar mount plus i did roll a few feet on the rotor but it seems ok.
My tire hit another mazda, a protege driven by an old lady. It put a pretty good lick on the fender! I'm hoping the place i got the tires mounted owns up to their responsibilities towards the other driver. !

sounds like your wheel bearing went boom on you. that happened to a guy whose car was at the local tuner shop. they started pushing it out of the shop, and BOOM went the wheel. fortunately it was just a Nissan sedan, but still...sucks when it happens.

actually...i retract my previous statement. i reread what you wrote, and it sounds like they didn't torque the lugs properly.
that tire place better be paying for all repairs to YOUR car, as well as the woman's.

if the rotor was still intact it had to be the studs pulling out of the hat ... or the lugs not being torqued down correctly
if it was an axle nut the whole hat would have come off...
and a wheel bearing would not cause a wheel to fall off... it would make a lot of noise and eventually sieze up ... but not fall off
the spindle itself would have to have ripped completely out of the bearing for that to happen ... and thats just damn near impossible...

Prepaid legal is a pyramid scam. Stay away from it. Talk it over with the shop owner and if you don't get resolution call the police station and have them send a uniformed officer down to file a statement. Then will you have any grounds to stand on in court.

I have no damage, well a few tiny scratches here and there buth nothing broke. I told the lady to call the cops but she said nah, so all i did was call my insurance co. They will cover her damages and subrogate the cost from the tire shop.
I am in the clear.

the wheels are not bad at all, they put a few weights on them and that was that. Im sure if you take yours off they will be a little bent also.

To be honest, I was just relieved i have no damage other than scratches under the car and most important nobody got hurt! It has cost me nothing so far, well other than the sprint home to get a jack(damn i'm out of shape)
Believe me when it happened i was pretty close to snapping. I was pissed and had the place been open I would have probably done something detrimental to those people!

When you pay a shop to perform a service, esp something as simple as mounting some damn tires, most people like to think it was done right. Lesson learned here I hope.....I do everything I can on my FD myself (to include porting and building), and if it is something I can't do I stand by and watch every move the monkeys messing with my car make.
2fast7s, go back to that shop and raise hell. Tell them they are lucky no one was killed and that there wasn't an accident and DEMAND compensation for every single damn scratch to your FD.....

Yes, big lesson learned...this is not the first time some monkey has left something loose on my FD(after an alignment, they left the right side, lower control arm on the front loose). Believe me, just like you i try to do as much as i can on myself...i got reason not to trust anyone!!
