Here is a very descriptive page about first gen battery cables. It makes important points. You should read the other stuff on this guys web site. He knows first gens very well....

I replaced both of my cables with parts from pepboys/autozone/advance whatever type place. Seems to be just fine to me.

The article calvin refers to is old, and I was never able to find those particular part numbers. One thing I found really annoying is that, at least in va beach, the pep boys only carry the black battery cables. Retarded, WTF?

I guess you have to go to Advance or Autozone for the red ones (I think they only have red cables :-). Even if the part numbers are wrong, the thing the article talks about in battery cables is accurate. That guy's site is generally pretty good and if the links don't work contact him and he will update them.

It is probably the o-rings in the intake. You gotta pull the intake from the engine and replace the gasket and the o-rings to the intake.

Item number J and you can see where they go on Item A on this page

I have a first gen going to the crusher next week hopefully. If anyone wants anything let me know. Much is already spoken for, but it still has some usable stuff on the car. Let me know soon.

The next Rotary Car meet is:

When:
Saturday, March 19, 2005 at 5:00 PM

Where:
Fountain Plaza Cafe
701 Town Center Dr Ste 102,
Newport News, VA 23606

use mapquest.com to get directions.

I have never been here, but I have heard from others that it is a nice place to get good pictures of your car. I am hoping for a warmup in the weather between now and then, but we should have some daylight to pictures if you want. There is also a guy showing up with camera nd tripod to get some good pictures.

For all you who autocross or are interested in giving it a try, TSCC has just posted their schedule of events for 2005 to be run at ACU-4 on Little Creek Amphib base. For those of you who don't know, ACU-4 is probably the nicest autocross site on the east coast. It is a great and safe place to hold these events. As they get close I will of course have more information, but for now, make a note of these dates on your calendars:

April 17th
June 19th
July 17th
August 21st
October 16th
November 20th <--- Winter#1, Joy Fund event

Each event is on Sunday, and each of them has a Saturday setup of which the format is if you work and help the club set up the event (usually takes a couple of hours of carrying around cones or marking pylon locations) then you can get some pratice runs on Saturday. They usually do something like run the course backwards so that nobody gets real pratice on the actual course. But it is a great time to experiment with tire pressures or check the balance on a new sway bar or a different alignment setting. You must be a TSCC member to participate in the Saturday setup. If you are interested in becomming a TSCC member, let me know and I can get the information t you.

Hey guys! After years of looking at RX-7's on Ebay, I finally bought one. A gold '90 GXL. The interior is really nice, there's a bit of rust on the body otherwise it looks great. So let me share my story about this car..... I'd been watching the auction for a while, it was cheap and local, the current bid was only $860, the owner said there was some engine problems(seemed to be misfiring, he just had the entire exhaust replaced and was still running very rough). Well I figure what the hell, I buy it and I'll get some rotary engine experience right away. I bid and win the auction. I go to Va Beach to pick up the car with my family. The seller starts up the car and it won't idle unless you give it gas and it idles ROUGH!!! So I "drive" the car towards home. Car has no power, it stalls out in the middle of Indian River rd and Kempsville. I get it on the highway. I run out of gas right before I get on the HRBT. I call a tow truck to take it to get gas and drop it off the house. But still, I'm excited. I've got a car that I've been wanting for a long time, so what if I need to work on it(I don't have much spare time). While avoiding work this morning(I work from home) I decide to have a look at the car in the light, check the interior, the engine. I try to get familiar with the engine so I can change the plugs, do a tune up. While examining the engine I notice a vacuum hose was disconnected. I reconnect the hose, cross my fingers and VOILA the car runs great! There's a slight intermittant sputter and it seems to be running kinda rich, but it runs 500% better than it did last night! While again avoiding work, I find this thread. I didn't know there was a HR Rotary club. If I can get the car inspected by Saturday(I have to go to CT to do some work from tomorrow to Friday) I'll drive up to the meeting in the Town Park.

yeah, you are right, that is pretty ghetto. Mine is on magnetic material so I can run it at track events and autocrosses and not have it on all the time. Of course the other reason is I had one sticker and had more than one car, so I could move the sticker....
