FYI for those with Maryland Historic tags

Those bastard pols in Annapolis must have snuck this one in under the radar. I got this email from the MVA yesterday:

"Important information about Maryland registered historic vehicles

Dear Historic Vehicle Owner,

As the owner of a historic vehicle, we want to make you aware of legislation passed by the Maryland General Assembly that goes into effect on Saturday, October 1, 2016. It is important to know that this legislation will impact how historic vehicles may be operated.

Effective October 1, 2016, a Maryland registered historic vehicle may no longer be used for transportation to and from employment, school, or for commercial purposes.

In addition, historic vehicles with a model year of 1986 or newer may be subject to safety equipment repair orders issued at roadside by law enforcement.

Thank you for your compliance with this new Maryland law."

Makes me wonder how the hell they are going to enforce this - random pull-overs of historic tagged cars during rush hour perhaps? Wouldn't surprise me in this commie state.

Also, owners cannot use their historic cars to drive to work, or school, or for commercial use, but rather the owner must certify the vehicle will be maintained for use only in exhibitions, clubs, parades, or similar activities.

How do you certify that stuff?

FYI

this was ALWAYS the law lol, the news was they were going to make historic cars between 20 & 30 years now have to get INSPECTED too... but they 86'd that last minute. NOTHING REALLY CHANGED other than now if you have a 20-30 year old historic car, cops are allowed to write you Fix-It tickets.
Otherwise, you were NEVER SUPPOSE TO daily historic vehicles, EVER.

Sorry to sound like kind of a dick but im f*cking tired of seeing people post this like it's big news when nothing really about the law is changing... people just didn't know what the law was before oct1st and it bothers me LOL

oh hey welcome man. make a intro yet? lol

the thing is, they DONT certify it... it's just kind of a trust thing. MD cops don't really care about people dailying historic tagged vehicles,, but now they might. but the law itself never really changed

I read that they were requiring inspections now.... where did you see that was still not required?

I was going to turn the plates back in on my corolla since I blew up the engine... but didn't want to have to get it inspected when I put plates on it again... it would be nice if that still wasn't required.

This is the updated plate form:

Here is the wording:

I like that wording much better that what I've read. It just says it can't be used primarily for driving to work

the application for title still doesn't say anything about class L vehicles needing inspections, but he hasn't been updated since august....

There's yet another reason, the law and limitations haven't changed but they're trying to close the loophole that lets people owning older cars/trucks that won't pass safety/emissions inspection reregister vehicle historic but drive/operate it everyday like it was previously. Certain you all have seen the mid eighties Chevy Cavalier, with no muffler, plastic sheeting for a window etc... driving around with a historic tag displayed. This is the guy that's going to get a roadside inspection,citation,fine.... think we're ok with our cars.
