It all depends on what you are looking to do. The first gen's would be the "easiest" of the bunch since they don't have as much electronics on them compared to the other cars. Also being non turbo makes the learning curve shorter.
Finding out what you want the car to do in end is more important than the car.
Buying a car to modify it to not stock is easy. You can find bad unfinished projects on here all day long. Doing it the right way takes time and money. Ask yourself how of both you are willing to spend first.

Mechanic - honest Maryland
Billy - for my rotary and my regulars, I have two mechanics. Known one 35+ years another 15+ years. West Street BP, on West St. Parole/Annapolis. As honest as Abe. Not in Columbia - about 45minutes from Columbia. I live in Laurel MD, not too far from Columbia and drive there for EVERY automotive need except simple oil changes & tires. PM me if want more info on Johnny & Orlando. Bill

Even if they aren't blown the others could be out of spec. I had the same problem a while back and it drove me so crazy I ended up just throwing money at it and replaced the whole console. You need to swap over your odometer chip to get the right mileage but its a routine solder job. Goodluck

Short notice but I'm thinking of hitting up the Dulles Landing Cars&Coffee tomorrow morning. Might be a little brisk in the early AM but hey, that's good boosting weather

Well got a mile down the road and lost spark looks like so not making it. Well gents, always have your igniter grounded... The way my coils are relocated I have mine attached to a bolt on the bottom of the bracket and guess it got loose enough. All good again now.

Bummer. I washed the car last night and aired up the tires. This morning I had 3 flats. Never in all my years has that happened to me. One schrader valve getting stuck slightly open I could see, but three? Anyway, turnout was good today. No other rotaries besides me, but there were some some neat cars. Couple Lambos, a DeLorean, some rat rods, old British stuff, a super clean Grand National, about a million mustangs

Matt - Missed seeing you on the 23rd. Couldn't possibly top last weekends 70 & 80°, but hope it's good enough for you. Went to FedEx Field Sunday afternoon and watched Mike thrash his beast around. He ate the course up ! Bill
