Haven't decided yet. I need to find some seat rails and another seat for the FB before I bring it out. I doubt I'll get that done before the first event so I'll probably bring the FD both days. If I find the parts I may do one on each.

you should go to OGracing and actually sit in seats to see which ones you fit in.

ian: I have no idea how you fit a sparco on stock rails by just massaging the holes... mine are no where close. are you using side mount brackets?

Nah, nothing.

Yeah I went there to get my helmet. It is great that you can try things on. But, the Kirkey that is in it fits me pretty well, it just needs to be forward 4 inches or so (I want rails so others can drive it too). I'll probably just get the passenger to match.

Yeah, I'm using the side mount brackets bolted to the stock FC slider.

I tried fitting the Sparco slider to a corbeau mount, but it would have sat higher.

You can do it Mike, just get the side mounts. Also, since it's related, I fit my old GTUs drivers seat in my truck with only massaging the holes. It's pretty sweet.

I only saw 2 rx7s there though. Rocky and my Rally-x friend Roberto who isn't on this forum.

I didn't do too well. I hit a lot of cones, missed second gear a few times, and then spun out into the finish...

Saturday morning was really foggy. To the point that Larry could barely make out the other cones when he was trying to set up. This took some extra time so we didn't get out on course till late. That on top of a large turnout meant we only got 5 runs and as it turned out I really could have used a 6th. The morning went well for me but since I was in the first heat it was a lot cooler out and I didn't have as much grip as they did later. My second run was my fastest and I spun on my fifth which was looking to be a pretty good run until that happened. Mike was darn quick but coned away his fastest.

Sunday was another beautiful day that started with a little fog. Most people must have been hungover though because only about half the entrants showed up. We ended up only running one heat. Things went quick and we got 11 runs. I brought the FB this time and on my second run I got a faster time then in the FD the day before. Unfortunately though on my third run and then the following runs the car started to act up and I never got any faster. It felt like I was hitting fuel cut or something. It was really weird, at certain times it would sputter and at others it would just cut out completely, the gas pedal would go to the floor and nothing. I'd feather/ pump it and still nothing, after coasting for a bit it would sputter and come back on slowly. At other times out on the course it would run fine.

I was puzzled by it, at first it seemed that it only happened on hard right turns, then it seemed like it was only when I did large throttle inputs (like when shifting). It could have been only in a certain rev range, but I couldn't watch the tach to confirm that. My guess was something in the carburetor under high G turns wasn't getting the fuel it needed, but then when I went for lunch I noticed it again when driving in a straight line. It was not as heavy as a cut as on course, just a little hesitation when I was putting a load on the engine. I was maybe around 3-3.5K RPM in 3rd? The same thing would happen when I was in 5th on 270 and the highway would go up hill. Any thoughts?

My guess is it could be the fuel filter. I saw this post and am hoping that it turns out to be as simple as a solution as his, but I haven't gotten back to the car to check yet.

Sucks about the fog and only getting 5 runs.

Rocky not sure if I can fully understand the problem, but it could be that you are not used to driving a carb, or one with mechanical secondaries. When coming out of turns and going to floor the pedal you need to be aware of your RPMs. If the nikki is set up right, you shouldn't notice any bogging when the RPMs are above 3200. You should be able to both be able to feel an increase in pedal pressure and feel the additional flow when the secondaries open at 1/2 way through the pedal. But below 3200 (often when coming out of a hairpin) you need to be careful of slamming the pedal.

I wish you would have been there to drive it, I could have used someone with experience to go over it with. It very well could be that I don't know what I am doing with it, but it seemed like there was something else there too. When I thought that it was due to to quick inputs, I drove a couple runs like I was trying not to crush an egg between my foot and the gas pedal, and it still cut out. :/

And, I shifted near 7500 out of first into the first turn which was a sweeper. I doubt it was below 3500 when I applied the throttle.

I would start with the fuel filter too. it probably needs to be changed anyway.

and check to make sure there isn't a screen filter in the tank. I don't know if FBs have on or not, but if there is change that one too.

after that I would post in in the 1st gen section and see what peopel say, there are a lof of old people in there that know how to work on carbs

That is probably my next step, although I need to do more searching/reading first so I at least know a little bit about what I am talking about.

hey guys!

My name is Robert and I have been lurking around the boards for awhile. Lately, I've been really interested in picking up an FD and random saw this one on eBay that is local.

Would any of you guys know who owned this car previously?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1993-...ht_20440wt_881

Thanks for the feedback in advance!

Hey Robert, and welcome. I looked at the car you showed and if it were me, my first reaction is to pass on it. The car has an automatic and a rebuilt title. This should put it more in the $8K-$9K range depending on the condition of everything. With 99k miles on the chassis and unknown mileage on the motor, it is overpriced.

Here is a similar car that was listed on here: LINK It was listed for $9K and didn't even have a rebuilt title. I don't know if it ever sold, but my guess is he couldn't find a buyer and decided to part it out (if you look at his pic link you can see its all individual parts now). My suggestion would be to be patient, save money, and watch the Classifieds on this forum. There are great cars popping up all the time and often at better value then ebay.

If I get it running the way I want, yeah probably. I still need to figure out the seats for it though.

thank you soo much for the reply! That was my initial thought as well but I live 4 minutes from there and will check it out tonight. I'll report back with my findings.

I'm really looking for a 100% stock FD or one with mild mods (aka suspension work). I don't mind an auto as I've been driving a twin disk on my turbo IS300 for awhile now..I have become quite lazy haha

I've had an auto FD for 9 years now, it is a great car and when I blew my first trans I did put another Auto back in its place instead of swapping. They definitely aren't as bad as a lot of people make them out to be.

But, all that said, if I were to do it again I'd have spent the extra money to get the manual from the start.

Also, you aren't planning on using this as a DD are you?

Was kinda thinking about making it a DD. My DD route is literally 10 miles round trip to Tysons, everyday. I currently drive a civic dx as a DD and I'm not too keen on it.

I was also thinking of selling my Turbo IS and getting into the FD game all together. It's always been a dream car of mine.

I know once I get it..the mod bug will bite

You can do a FD as a DD, but it is not recommended both for your sanity and the preservation of the car. As long as you have another car to drive when the FD needs a little 'attention', you should be okay though.

Also, the FD is a very small car compared to the monsters they are producing today, when driving in traffic you have to be very alert to the other cars. I am on edge whenever I commute in mine. It seems that everyone wants to hit me and a few have come very close. I had one lady in a SUV pull too far up into an intersection to make a left hand turn. When the light turned red she decided that she was going to back up into the turning lane. Only problem was, that is where I was sitting. Luckily there was no one behind me, I slammed it into reverse and got out of the way while blowing the horn. She stopped and looked around, but it was obvious she couldn't see the little car in any of her mirrors due to the massive size of her car.

But anyway, bring the turbo IS and stop by the CFA meet this Friday. We can talk cars all you want. ->https://www.rx7club.com/ne-rx-7-forum-30/2012-dulles-town-center-chic-fil-lowes-friday-car-meet-northern-va-992009/

I knew of an FD that color back in the early '00s that had some tasteful mods, but it was a 5 speed... Honestly, the interior looks pretty rough on that one...

Another vote for starting with the fuel filter... I would also recommend putting a "glass" filter in-line under the hood- Just makes it easier to see fuel flow, etc...

On another note, was that car a funky two-tone at some point in it's race car life?
