DC Area Fall Road Trip 2017
Is it time to consider a MD cruise again? We could do some early morning Drag strip runs at Capitol Raceway, cruise over to the car show that Derek wants to go to, after some time there we can drive a bit to a Brewery, and call it a day.
I tried looking to see if Capitol had an open day but their webpage is down right now. I didn't see any events scheduled on their FB page though so we might be in the clear.

Anyway, here is a tentative road map. I am very willing to adjust per locals suggestions. I don't know the area very well and mostly have chosen things off of google.

My question then to all is this: If the weather allows us to go on Oct 8th, would you still attend if we instead did a tour de MD?
1. Rocky - yes

BTW, Didn't we meet at Deals Gap a few years back? We were drinking that strong coffee stout brew that either you or Bawb made. Not too surprised you don't remember

)The route was originally given to me by a local cop who uses it himself to keep skills up for when he does weekend trips into the WV mountains on his sports bike.

I'd be a bit of a **** host by turning off the lights by 9pm Sunday night and going to bed in prep for work the next morning!

) was either the same year that I picked up the kitten from Adam (and wrecked my bike) or the year before.. I can't remember off the top of my head. LOTS of drinking tends to cloud the memories

I'm impartial on the drag strip, if my car gets tuned on the 6th it should move pretty good down the strip but I'd also be nervous about breaking something as it would only be the 3rd day of my car being at the 400+ whp level and my comfort level with it will be low.
I'm up for whatever since it's been so long. That pic was the last time I made it out to a cruise! Glad I don't have that car anymore.
Oh, yeah... If the MD thing would be primarily focused on hitting the drag strip then I'd probably bail, I've never really been that interested in drag racing, and something tells me the Miata wouldn't be terribly exciting
I'm down for a meet in MD. As Rocky said, it's more about hanging out with the people than the driving itself. As far as the drag strip, my car is slow and unchanged from last time so I probably wouldn't participate this time around.

No worries, I'm in the same boat on a work night. That's why I hope they do this on the 8th, since that Monday is a gov't holiday and I'm off work Hmm... we may well have, were you staying in the BAW cabin?? I want to say the year I brought the coffee stout (my beer is significantly better than Bawbs beer imo
) was either the same year that I picked up the kitten from Adam (and wrecked my bike) or the year before.. I can't remember off the top of my head. LOTS of drinking tends to cloud the memories

There was definitely booze involved, and it was at the lodge, probably the first night when everyone was rolling in. I wasn't staying at the BAW cabin. Think it was the same year Brian mooned your FD
On the plus side, at least in the morning it is so early there isn't any traffic.

I guess Billy B prefers rollin' VA hills more than the people.
I'm also for Levi's route, minus all the possible U-turns if he plays it by ear....or eye, in this case.

Matt & Duc - OMG, spank me. Yeah I AGREE it is, as our fearless leader says, about the people more than about the cars ! I was just trying to express my desire for driving locals not for cars over people. i.e. for where the cars and people would be. ... FYI - Levi‘s route is actually comprised of 2 separate routes that make up the approx 80 miles, so he could set one shorter than the 80 if need be. But Levi just chimed in that if it's primarily about drag racing he'd prob bail out. And only he knows this spirited rollercoaster ride.

Stupid forum, had a huge thing typed up and it disappeared. Well the JBM car show is a large 5-6 story parking garage with nothing inhabitable around it and they pay for the rights to be there. Event is from 10am-4pm. Copied this from FB event page. We can either plan around that, or figure something out.

I'd be down to meet up that morning in Crofton, go drive the backroads from 10-12, then head home if people went for drag racing. OR work a drive in earlier in the morning, then terminate the trip at Derek's car show My intent wasn't to imply that I wouldn't step foot in MD if drag racing is involved, but rather that I'd probably show up after it was over, or bail once the focus shifted to it

As to MD cruise w/ car show vs VA w/ mountains, the jury is still out. But, it is more and more looking like our date is going to be Oct 8th.

I'd only included the Drag strip as a one or two pass early morning thing like last time, i.e. grudge matches, hilariously slow times (my FB), etc. Last time we were there it was fun for about 30 min, but we quickly tired of it and moved on (especially once the lines started getting longer).
However, it doesn't look like anyone is really as interested in it. So... consider the idea sh*t canned.

I'm always down for standing around in a parking lot talking about cars so the car show idea is fine by me as well. Does anyone know if they can park us together even if we're not participating in the judged show part of the event?
Honestly have no idea how the non participants are being parked as it is just one garage in between roads and they know they can charge more for the top open floor now because it gets pretty stuffy in the other floors from the amount of cars there. I see no problem in finding somewhere together though.
