Hey everybody, sorry I was MIA yesterday, work got stupid busy.
Thanks everyone for all the Kudos, but it is really you that make or break an event. Thanks to all who were able to show, and to all who tried
Recap:
It turned out to be a beautiful day. If not for being a little chilly in the morning, I would have called it perfect. IHOP breakfast went well minus the fact that the early few couldn't reserve tables for the whole group. But, the meal was tasty and set everyone up for the extended stints in the cars. Afterward, we sauntered out to the cars to find a few more had arrived while we were eating. Everyone who showed, did so with time to spare. I can't thank everyone enough for that it makes everything flow better. Also, everyone had their cars ready to rip, (minus one that needed gas
) and even better, almost all were rotaries (Justin
)
The carefully laid out route that I had planned and pre-run multiple times was thrown out the window due to road closures and other events. We started out instead by hopping over to the GW parkway and enjoying the smooth road and scenic vistas of the Potomac. Unfortunately, we hit some traffic that was unexpected up near our turn around point. Thankfully though, I was able to see across the river that some of the roads, which were previously closed, had been opened to traffic again. This allowed us to skip the most confusing portion of the trip and stay off of surface roads. I was very impressed with everyone being able to keep on route and stay close. With all the turns and people unfamiliar with the area, I did keep the clip pretty slow to facilitate this. It wasn't as much fun as certain areas of the Spring trip but we all knew that from the get-go. Rock Creek Park was as expected, the leaves had begun to turn and set a nice backdrop. The main roads were smooth, but the backroads/twisties left something to be desired. We did get a strike of good luck near memorial bridge where someone had left a nice long street side for all of us to park in and stet up for pictures. (Thanks all for posting your pics, they look great!) When we left the city we did so on Canal road, which turned out to be almost a parking-lot (that's what I get for including a route that has a road I've never been on
). We were on that until the finish at Irish in which ended up being much to upscale for our group. I was however tempted to see how the Valet would handle the spec7 (just watching him getting in past the cage and then trying to drive it to the parking spot would have been worth the money
) After the trip a couple of us headed up to Montgomery Mall and stopped in at Ledo's Pizza for a bite.
Again I want to thank you all for the participation, keep your eyes out for the Spring trip. It is longer, and further out from the city, but we have had great success with it in the past and all are a little jumpy by that point to get out and drive.
For anyone who heard me talking about the Autocross event this upcoming weekend, here is the website again for the Club I belong to: Capital Driving Club
There will be events on both Saturday and Sunday. Providing everything goes as planned, I will be there both days and will happy to instruct/assist any newcomers who show up. You are more then welcome to stop by as well, it is free to come watch and jump in some cars to ride along. As of now, I will be driving the Spec which has no passenger seat so I can't offer you a ride-along with me on Saturday. Sunday is still a little up in the air though, I'm not sure what car I will be driving yet. There are always nice people that have an available seat though, all you have to do is ask.
I encourage you to try driving though. You won't regret it, it is really one of the best/cheapest ways to legally enjoy the cars you own. Don't worry about not having the right mods or whatever other excuse you want to come up with. I guarantee you, your car could be perfectly set up with the best equipment and it wont make any difference your first time out. Seat time is key, the car is secondary.
