Anyone from New England hit the Autocrosses?
Hey, I was just wondering if any of you guys from New England hit any of the AutoX's at all?
I just started this year with the Mass Miata group, and it's great to see those little things go around the course, but I'd love to see some 3rd Gen. 7's going at it.
Yeah yeah, I don't even own a Mazda right now, but I used to
and I will again, once that RX-8 comes out

please don't tell me noone autocrosses, and only drags?
ugh, your cars would whoop some serious *** at an autoX or track day...I think they're wasted if they're only dragged... but that's just me

I don't know i think us living in NE are getting the shaft as far as group things go. I would personally love to go to a BBQ outing or a track day but can't see myself driving anywhere from 2 - 6 hours to do so. I mean Lime Rock is about an 1.5 hours from here or less and i have never heard of anything going on there.
I've perdonally seen over a half dozen 7's in my area and i don't think any of them are enthusiasists. Aw well, i'm not going to
over it, but maybe i'll go have myself a

zoomzoom: check out the BMW club (sorry, I don't know their web address) or www.massmiata.net and you can get into some autoXing through them
Generally they are held at Fort Devens, which is in Ayer, MA (right along 495). I don't know what else will be happening...obviously SCCA events, too... but since it's the end of the season, all we have to look forward to is rallying and ice racing...but I don't think you'd want to do those in the 7.
btw, why do you think the roads in NH suck? go up north to the Kankamangus highway... best. road. ever.

I haven't brought my Seven there yet, but it's great on a sport bike! I can just imagine it with the 7.
You didn't mention where in NH that you live, but if you live up North, check out www.sccnh.org. They do a lot of stuff around Cleremont if I remember right.
I saw the BMW club running an autocross at the dog racing track in Salem a couple of years ago, so if you live down South, you'd probably be better off hooking up with a Boston club.
Anybody close to Central Vermont (West Lebanon, NH is only about 45-50 minutes away) can check out www.sccv.org. They have a small autocross about once a month and also do hillclimbs and ice racing.

unfortunately, from what I've been told, as of a couple years ago, the BMW club stopped autocrossing at the Rockingham mall there.
who knows if they'll go back or not.
I've heard the new place for next year is some Air Force Base in Weymouth...which is a little further south than Devens, for most people.

Hopefully the Massachusetts Governor won't be like our wonderful Governor here in Vermont. He banned any civilians from doing anything on the Air National Guard base. All the basketball leages were cancelled. We had to find alternate locations for AutoX's.
Sometimes I wonder if they really have the people's interest in mind. Well, I think we all know they don't. But it's a nice theory.

I just hit an autox at Fort Devens last weekend, and am prepping my car for one at NHIS this sunday. I am running my 10th AE. There were plenty of 3rd gens at Devens, like 4 or 5, so i am assuming there will be atleast one or two there this weekend.
Your working on a Delorean Huh? Nice, what are your plans for it? I am hoping to eventually get a delorean project car for my company. I would plan on a a fast italian motor swap with all new brakes and suspension. But that's just me.
Hey Kieth, yea...just kinda got board during passing time before math class. So i was just lookking at different forums about the autox's...and saw this one...so figure i would liven it up again.
I'm in Boston, but autox in Bristol, CT with other Boston friends. There's one FB and two FD's that autox there. Also a Miata. www.cartct.com for the schedule. We prefer the CART club to the events run at Devens. We get five timed runs each event and then you can go for fun runs at $3 each.
holy dead thread brought back to life! i just started autocrossing. I autocross/ kill cones in a SM2 class FD RX-7 Number 937. I race with the SCCA, but i would love to look into joining other sanctions due to seat time. i have a feeling every Devens event is gonna be packed, unfortunatly. it was awesome seeing all the different vehicles, from 2 lotus' to open wheel carts. Awesome time for sure, but i was a little dissapointed with the seat time. Anyone going to the Veterans Appreciation Race on May 28th? God willing my car is done by then, so i should be there with bright eyes, a bushy tail, and i hope to show up early enough to walk the course this time. I never want to make that mistake again. Does anyone know if they use the same course as they did last event? Cause i have it memorized in my mind now, after messing up soo many times. I hope to see Imp, Slo Motorsports, and East Coast Bumps there, and IMP, im gonna take you up on that ride, to see what a really autocrosser feels like. Im sure my car would be fast with a more experienced driver in it, but thats what learnings all about. Hopefully Willub and Company, Christian, will be racing this time, as well. I cant wait til the next event, and hope to see you all there.
Yep, I'll be there on the 28th.
What makes auto-x fun is the course changes from event to event. No two courses are the same. What you need to learn with seat time are the way different elements flow into each other.
Slaloms, chicago boxes, sweepers, etc... are all re-used, but the way they are linked, are changed.
After a while, you start picking up where you need to slow down/get on the gas.
