Any shops / people in NY for LS swap?

I've been considering getting an FD shell and getting an LS swap done as it would be cool to know exactly what i'm getting and be able to cherry pick a shell based on what I like.

That being said, anyone know any shops around here that would do it? Or someone who really knows their stuff that would take time / care to do it right? It's just something i'm considering, but if I can source and get prices then I might actually do it.

Thank you

I actually am in the process or purchasing a car already swapped. I'm aware of the hate the LSx swaps get on this forum, that's fine - to each his own. However, this forum sees alot more traffic then v8rx7 forum and I got some helpful replies to which I appreciate.

I am located in suffolk county on long island.

I'll still take any references if people have them, wouldn't hurt to have someone on hand in case something goes wrong or I need some help doing some work.

Thank you.

locally the vette doctors do some great stuff with those motors, but for any general maintance pretty much anybody can do it, its not as specific as the rotary.

at least you wont have to carry a spare motor around anymore!

"oh ****, blew again- hurry up and get a j-spec!" ( hehe, that will get em upset )

and I guess its the engines fault ?

everyone is so quick to blame the rotary when their engines break lol

Doesn't change the fact your giving rotaries a bad rep based on your own misfortunes. Theres plenty of people with very reliable rotories including some that go 7 seconds all season long before needing a rebuild. yes they are fragile and there isn't a lot of room for mistakes but thats because theres not much info out there and its not all written in the textbooks like the v8s.

i have good luck with these cars, but I have also seen first hand how one wrong move does these engines in. I literally boosted once and paid the price, I believe you did something similiar.

So yes it is the owners fault, but I just prefer a little more room for error.

You can search my posts, I have always said I am a fan of hot rods. If that means putting X brand of motor into Y car thats how hot rodding was born and people should appreciate the time and effort that goes into that.

Do it yourself... really it's not that hard.

and you really did go to the wrong forum...as said above, go to www.v8rx7forum.com if you are diligent and search you will find ALL the info you need on that site... it's not a matter of traffic. 90% of the guys on that site did their own swap.

t.
I dont know what your referring to or what you have heard but none of my motors blew from only boosting once ? its a turbo car its meant to be in boost, thats the point. If your car blew up from boost only once literally then your car was not tuned correctly in the first place. and the same thing would have happened with a turbo v8 with the exception of being able to detonate a little longer before blowing up.

All of the motors that blew up on me I knew the culprit and was never left scratching my head, whether it was a bad fuel pump, a wg line that popped off and "over boosted" or pushing the limits of pump gas I knew the cause.

Yes I know its sucks they are so fragile but thats because nobody knows anything about them and taking the easy way out by putting a v8 in is not going to help at widening the room for error. the v8 had the same path when it first came out and only got better because people stuck with it until they figured out how to make it better.

Im not against putting a v8 in an rx7 its your car you can do whatever you want im just against people giving rotories a bad name when there in no position to really judge.

Its going to be sad day for the rx7 when there is more v8 rx7s then rotories lol.

dont worry, im sure no one will give them a bad name.

the guy asked for a shop and it turned into this, it always does. He did not ask for our opinions and here we are crapping up his thread.

to each his own- happy boosting.

btw- not to give tuners a bad name with that "one boost" comment I made, it was more like driving 500 miles on a brand new with a quick tune waiting for break in motor with a little boost here and there, but then I got stupid at 543 miles and bricked it going across the robert moses bridge with a porsche and a bmw, so it was really my fault- which I openly admit, lol. Sure felt good and almost worth it!

the only thing im saying about the subject...is the idiots that turboR1 are refering to really do give the engine a bad name...and its stuck.....we will always have the black mark against us....and quite frankly for the vast majority of the population looks down upon us because of this title we have been given.

its the reason why you always see people fighting over it....why theres thread crapping everytime the subject is brought up. theres always going to be bad blood between the two engines because of idiots who dont know what there doing, blow the engine and blame it on the design rather then there ignorance...so us intelligent people have to defend ourselves..and it just gets crazy

not talking about you rob xx 7 or anyone in perticular btw..im talking in general

i have no problem with people doing the swap....to each his own as they say...it just pisses me off when its done with either: a) not even experienceing the rotary engine and B) what was stated above

and just so im not thread jacking

theres a couple people in the general area, though ive seen alot of them give up on it and sell there shells...your best and honest bet is to go to v8 rx7 forums and look for info, parts and shells.

it may not be high flow, but at least you wont be creating a **** storm everytime you bring up the subject
