Agile Auto v. Altered Atmosphere

So, I go to Altered Atmosphere, my friend goes to Agile Auto.

His Experience - They supercharge his Miata, install a header and exhaust, give him new rotors in all 4 corners, new brake lines and pads, all for the price they quoted him, done in 2 days, which was one day earlier than they told him.

My Experience - They tell me its better to order the GReddy from them than through someone else so they can do everything in house. Instead of ordering a kit in stock, on the internet, for $2999, I go through them for $3200, and have to wait 2 months for the ****ing kit to arrive. They also told me they'd done 2 turbo RX-8s already - when I actually drop the car off I find out they had TUNED two turbo RX-8s, but hadn't actually installed any of the kits on them. Next, they tell me the install will be done in 3 days MAXIMUM, instead it takes 5 and I'm stuck without a car, at a friend's house, with no ride. Finally, they charge another $200 more than the price we agreed on citing the difficulty of the install for the delay and price increase.

Moral of the Story
Extreme Motorsports - ****s (see previous threads when I owned the Eclipse)
InlinePRO - ****s (so unhelpful I decided not to get an S2000 and got the 8 instead)
Altered Atmosphere - ****s
Agile Auto - very cool guys!

I wouldn't go to any "general" import shop with this car. It's got to be a rotary, and FD, specialist. I know it's a pain to find em, but not nearly as much of a pain as dealing with the screw ups.

hmmm.

last time i talked to Mike and Hill at Agile they didn't do RX7s...so good luck getting work done there. i'd called them when i first got my FB and asked if they did them(this was a couple of months ago), and they said they didn't touch them.

i dont mess with altered atmosphere i used to work at the harley shop down the street when i had my awd talon and was not impressed at all with the service i decided not to let them touch my car. i stood in the lobby waiting for half an hour while they all just sat around in the back ****** around. i wouldnt recomend anyone taking there car there. ive tried numerous times to get a strait answer on something from them and they just dodge around the point.

I went to AA to dyno the blower on my honda. Just like the above. I stood around (they don't even have any chairs) probably for a good 40 minutes. But there was a big line or it was a busy day? Mid week. First one there. I walked it 10 minutes after they opened. They strapped the car down and i just stood around for another 20 minutes. Finally finished the "basic" dyno package (3 runs with A/F) for like 8-90$. Got my numbers but the 2 hours of just hanging around was dumb. I guess I didn't roll up in some money NSX or supra I suppose. Last time I was there, they had a sign on the wall they says that they charge 85$ an hour. No thanks.

Haven't been to Agile personally. I've heard my share. I'm near the shop once a week for lunch. There's a chinese place right in front of it. For the last couple weeks, they look pretty busy but most of the cars are BEAT.

For engine work, I take my car down to Kearney's in Capital Heights near the fedex stadium. Runs well and I haven't had any problems since.

yeah...stick with Kearney's...based off what you have said, Calvin, as well as a few other folks and their stories, Kearney's seems to be the best bet.

Altered Atmosphere seemed nice at one point because Mike has an *** load of money backing up his shop. I have heard that is not the case anymore, so they are nickel and diming everyone they can. They are a Greddy distributor, so they should have beat ANYONES price. I am not sure if Joe still works there, but he was the ONLY reason that AA was ANYTHING. The owner and others there are clueless. Just my $.02 It seems like due to Ray buying PFS, that may be one of the best options for FD's and RX8's around. Of course, don't forget about Demetrios as long as he has time.
