Best anti-photo radar/laser license plate cover??

Anyone have any experience w/ the diff plate covers, and have a recommendation of a good one? As you can see from this link http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=...ff&oi=froogler there are quite a few diff kinds. Above photo radar, side photo radar, anti-laser, the spray on over-exposure stuff, etc. I'm not sure what way to go...I'm even considering using the spray AND a cover, so the spray doesn't get washed away, even though it's supposed to be weatherproof. Plus, that way, if a pic is taken w/o flash, it still won't come out (the spray overexposes FLASH pics only).

Please chime in w/ your $0.02, and esp. if it's NoVa/DC related.

Thanks
~Ramy

PS: Yes, I believe VA now has wording in the code book that makes anything that renders your license plate illegible as being illegal, but I don't care... I'm more worried about the 3 or 4 redlight cameras near my house, and the 50 or so I have to drive through in DC...

Why Ramy, just ask your Va. native right down the street...I have a can of photoblocker in my hand as we speak. I purchased it last year at Leguna Seca. I haven't used it yet but I will be spraying shortly.
I would use the spray because you cannot tell like you can with a plate cover. I am not going to give these clowns something else to write me up for. I believe the cameras are coming down throughout the state though.

Chris, thanks for the link to the article. I saw the headline a few weeks ago, but didn't get a chance to read the article. I esp. liked this part:

"<nitf>Others pointed to studies that show that rear-end crashes increase at monitored intersections. They also said there were better ways of cutting down on red-light runners, such as extending the time of yellow lights. </nitf>

<nitf>"These cameras cause more accidents than they prevent . . . their own reports show that," said Jim Kadison, a member of the National Motorist Association, which has long fought the use of the technology."
</nitf>
<nitf>I've been saying this ALL ALONG. About time someone figures this out lol. Oh, and the NMA is the organization I was talking to you guys about as being out advocates for YEARS now. Everyone should def. join 'em. http://www.motorists.com/, and http://www.speedtrap.org/nma/, yep, the beloved speedtrap website we all love.
</nitf>
<nitf>On another note, I still gotta deal w/ DC photo radar. I got caught a few months back for a red light I simply could not stop for. Pissed me off. Wanna share that photoblocker spray you got?
</nitf>

The trick is to drive faster than the sensor can trip the camera. Its not quite as fast as c so it should be attainable with a big single.

I'm gonna crack open a can of worms and ask: Why can't you stop for red lights? I don't have trouble with it.

It's not the stoplight cameras i worry about (though squeaking through in DC traffic is tempting), it's the speed cameras. So far in DC most are mounted on the front of patrol cars that you can easily spot on the side of the road... when they start hiding them its going to suck ***.

Lemme know how your recon on this pans out Ramy.

Well I'm personally quite against the covers. If you're ever witness/involved in any real criminal activity (hit&run, etc) the cops always claim the license plate is vital information. Well, if it's so f'n vital, why aren't they stopping people with the blatantly illegible covers?

But here it's a different story, our police isn't so f'd up to allow speed cameras.

I have one on my Van. I got a ticket from a state trooper for having it. The best part is when he gave me the ticket he said They are illegal because " If you have on then you most likely intend to break the law" I LOVE GETTING A TICKET BECAUSE THEY THINK I MIGHT BREAK THE LAW.

Man what a great notion. Let's start to arrest the murders before they murder anyone!

Woo hoo!

Peter said half of it. The other half really is that sometimes stopping for reds in DC isn't quite feasible. The light sequence in DC in the mornings is usually great...catch one green, and all the rest turn green in a row. But at night, I don't understand... there's a cluster of lights in a row...the first turn 3 as the 4th turns yellow. If you stop at that yellow (or red if you're doing the speed limit lol), EVERY light from around R St. to Constitution (which is down past D St....so about 15 blocks) will turn red once the light you're at turns green. So getting out of the city goes from a 7 minute trip to a 25 min ordeal. It's ridiculous. If you catch that one light as a yellow, or BARELY run it as a red, you'll get greens all the way. (Hey, I'm just being honest).

The other situation is when you have someone behind you following closely. Stopping is a great way to get rear-ended. And as the article above cited, rear end collisions have gone up significantly since the installation and use of redlight cameras. Sometimes it's actually SAFTER to run the light. This is the primary reason why I want the plate cover, because I got caught a few months back w/ one of those cameras for running a light when I had no other choice...

I do see your point tho, and I'd never commit a hit-and-run...that's a horrible thing to do. But yes, the covers help make it possible. I'm not trying to get 'em to intentionally misuse them (much)

I don't think it's a high fine here in VA or in DC, and in fact i'd imagine it's a non-motion violation, so I wouldn't care much. What I'm leaning toward is the spray w/ a 100% clear cover, so I'd never have trouble w/ the po-po for the cover.

Ok I did a bit more research, and I don't think one of those polarized plate covers is a good idea. Fairfax has wayyyy too many cops both in speed traps and on the streets, and they'll easily be able to spot it as they're driving next to me.

I don't think one of those anti-laser gun plate covers work, and even if they do, I'm not worried about getting tagged by laser from the rear. IIRC, laser guns must be stationary when used, which means 99.99% of the time it'll be used by a cop up ahead of me, aiming at the front of my car, and I don't run a front plate...

I'm just trying to decide between these final 2 options, both from http://www.phantomplate.com:

1) The photoblocker spray + a clear cover (in case it isn't so weatherproof)
2) The photoblocker reflector plate cover

I think I may just use the spray on a clear plate, and call it a day...and who knows, maybe give it a test run? (I'll be sure to let ya know Peter haha). Anyone have any suggesstions, be it other products, diff combinations, etc?

Thanks
~Ramy

Cool

7 sins has a great tag. His is something to the effect of I1II1I1. You can imagine the hard time the guy mailing the citation has deciphering what the hell the actuall number on his tag is. You might want to try something along those lines. I had been planning on something similar myself since i first saw his three years ago. It would be just as good with OO00O00 or what have you.
