whats the top speed of your n/a

1989 gtu

mods:

small streetport and exhaust port
lightweight steel flywheel and clutch
racing beat header with 2.5'' straight exhaust
koyo radiator
everything eliminated

I got the car up to 145mph. Another thing is the tranny was from the mazda pick up b2000. 4th gear was pretty big, thats where i get to 145mph, at a little pass 8k rpms. But 5th gear was very short..... I think it was only like a 800rpm difference from 4th but it still wouldnt go pass 145 after shifting.

The main reason I went with this tranny is because i broke the stock one and was told that this tranny was stronger, and 5th gear would alow you to get a little more mph.... guess i didnt have the hp. The only thing i didnt like about it was at 80mph in 5th gear, you'll be at 4k rpms.

I still think the stock tranny better suits the car though. Its just a little weak.

Ha! You're all pitiful in comparison to me!

I've done 200! That was at the end of a 1.1 mile long straight at Spokane Raceway Park, so the public was not endangered. Stock block, RB exhaust with stock manifold, cone filter with headlight scoop and filter shielded from heat.

Just nevermind the fact that I'm from Canada (metric).

These top speed threads are usless.

doesn't mean **** if you have a faster top speed by a 5-10mph.

Unless you can tell me what the wind resistance was and which direction it was coming from.

No more of these threads PLEASE!

With that said, I got up to 130 on mine. No more than that.

wind at the back, dont know the wind speed (sorry)...

Two RX-7s drafting one another, sunroofs open, windows cracked....

Intake/full header back exhaust on both cars...

147 mph.... Both cars read the same speed on the speedo...

(also, stock tire size... makes a big difference on your speedo)

Almost all factory speedo's are not accurate. The only way to know for sure what speed you are going, is to log actual rpms from a laptop, measure actual tire circumference, and do the math with gear ratio. This is how I verified 178, I didnt have a speedo. Hit 7050 rpms in 5th gear.

hmm.....my digital tach captured a peak of 7985 rpm @ 233 kph, I'll check to see how accurate it is with a gear speed calculator

144.14 mph (231.97 kph), that's funny the speed is understated.

ya, never said they were dead nuts.. just said they both said the same speed.. I know how far a speedo can be off at those speeds, even with "stock" tire sizes on the vehicle... I am very aware of the specifics of it...

As far as the downhill, there wasnt much of one... but it didnt just climb to that speed and hold... we were full throttle on a good straight for a few minutes...

As for the HP of those two, not sure... both S5 NA with intake/exhaust, im pretty sure they didnt have the e-manages in at the time... Theyre brothers and I have done corresponding mods to both cars for them... I was in the lead car when we did this...

That is some short gearing you have there huh? Perfect for most tracks though.

That's 4th gear.....

I didn't even touch fifth. I know the car doesn't pull if you shift to 5th, anyway.

Using the S5 n/a transmission with the uber tall 5th gear?

GPS read 120mph and so did the stock speedometer on my vert when it was NA and automatic. The auto trans was shot(slipping), and it took a long time and a down hill to hit that speed. This was on my way to Kevin Landers for a 5spd TII conversion.
