t2 or n/a..which is better
hello, im new to this to forums but i had just purchased a 86 mazda fc, and its a n/a but i do plan to do a swap. I have been looking up information about these motors but i still can't figure out what would be a better drift set up? If i swap the motor with the stock t2 i'll have more power than the n/a, but i had recently found out that the n/a has a higher compression and that it wont have that turbo lag. So im trying to get a motor to get easy HP @ the same time be street legal, becuase i live in CALI and they are asses here. Depending on which motor i purchase i plan to do the 5 basic upgrades before dropping the motor in, which includes the headers, intake, exhaust, light flywheel/clutch kit,and the suspension. So which motor would be better with these upgrades?
Im gonna get hated on for this soooo bad because you put this in the NA performance section... but for your application that you are listing, I think you would probably be better off with a TII motor...

You dont need power to drift. You can drift a stock NA. I currently run my NA as a drift car. I only have header, gutted cat, corksport catback and a cone air filter. Thats all for power. Drifting is all about suspension and driver. Even then suspension can be overcome if you are a good driver.

I love NA vehicles and power, but the fact remains with the amount of torque a 2 rotor produces it is *easier* to drift with a TII. You dont need power to drift, but it helps. Look at almost any of the circuit drift cars, if power wasnt needed, then why have soo much into power upgrades and soo many swaps for more powerful motors? Dont say it because those guys cant drive or any crap like that either please...
So, in Cali, trying to pass inspection legally at all times, I would still suggest the TII swap

I thought more noise meant more power. I was seriously considering changing out my RB exhaust for some thinwall steel piping and a fart cannon to gain that extra 20RWHP.
