CA Sand Dragster headers 13B 6port

I am rebuilding a sand dragster the was VW powered and swaping in a 13B. When fabing the headers will I lose power if i use a Zoomie style dragster header, just two pipes sticking up in the air? Or should i merge them into one and add a muffler. The motor will only be run in the 6 to 8K range for short times and a sand track in only 300 feet. Noise is only a problem at the house tunning it.

if the engine is stock port-ish two pipes will be fine. it'll be very loud, like 130db+ so even the "noise isn't a problem" people will probably say that's too loud!

I would put a muffler on that, i have mooved my car with S4NA engine and only headers mounted, and that was too loud, it's just not drivable.

You risk having the nearest big airport call you and ask you to keep the noise down.

Ok, so I will merge them and run a muffler. How long should the pipes be?

Hi Michael, This is what I fabricated. Bought a racing beat flange and used some sprinkler pipe (for added wall thickness and noise deadening) then cut up a new cherry bomb muffler to "borrow" the baffles to meet our noise specs. Still got a nasty bark but it sounds sweet! With my clutch set up I'm turning around 7900-8100 rpm's.
