Over in the Rx-8 forums I was involved in a thread about timing, and one of the vendors who flashes Rx-8 ECU's posted the current OEM timing maps (6 port manual tranny cars). Keep in mind that these cars have 10:1 rotors. The rows are RPM and the columns are a load unit of some sort from their MAF sensor.

there must be another map for idle, if you're in the car with the mazda IDS at idle leading is always -5btdc but trailing will advance to a positive number (it varies too!)

The RX-8 ecu uses different maps for different situations rather than just one map like most others do. There are 3 different maps for accelerating alone and even 2 for decelerating in gear! The idle map isn't shown as the timing split goes negative (trailing firing first) below about 1000 rpm or so.
