removing turbo

hey all
im thinking of buying a series 4 or 5 rx7
in australia we have this new law that provisional drivers can only drive na cars so now the na rx7s and more expensive then the trubo rx7s
what would it cost and how hard would it be to remove the turbo from a turboed rx7
i would have to change the ecu to a na one and the inlet and outlet manifold
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

You should only have to replace the turbo, downpipe, and converters with the N/A equivalent (the catback is interchangable N/A to turbo) and then plumb the throttle body inlet through the airflow meter. The stock ECU should suffice.

I wonder if it's worth the hassle, though - do they check the car for a turbo, or do they look at the VIN and see that it's a turbocar? Would modifying the car to non-turboness run afoul of any vehicle laws?

thanks for that
i dont think they check the vin number the just look under the hood to see if there is a turbo or not.
i no a guy who said that he was driving a non turboed car on his provisional licence but the car had a turbo badge on it and the police pulled him over and just checked under the hood to see if there was a turbo

thats the police though, ours would do that too, but the dmv where you get the car registered, would go by the vin number.

just something to check before you buy anything.

seems like a weird rule too, you could have a 500hp corvette but not a 182hp mazda?
