NA Tuning: Where to start?

Well I'm almost at the point of tuning my car. It's an S4 with a custom exhaust (headers back), and a short ram intake off the TB, with a rebuilt motor. I have S5 manifolds soon to be installed and have all the resources now to run the aux ports and vdi off rpm switches and an airpump.

I also have an RTek 2.0 about to go in.

Tuning is new to me, so I was wondering where I could go to read up on what to tune for for us NA guys? AFR's? Someone mentioned to mebefore to us manifold pressures as well to tune?

Any advice or information pointing me into the right direction will be helpful?

Thanks!

I must be searching in the wrong places, I haven't been able to find to much regarding NA tuning. Not sure how much it would differ vs. turbo tuning?

similar idea, except the na isnt detonation limited, so you can actually tune for best power...

if its a stock port, its like an ITS motor, they run about 13:1 and timing should be in the 26degree range over 5000, but start richer and a little more retarded.

if its ported, it probably wont want as much timing

Yeah mine is running with stock ports.

I was reading a tuning book, and from the notes I took I came up with these figures:

Idle: ~13-13.5
WOT: ~13-13.5
Cruise: ~14.5
Decel: ~15.5

I couldn't find much of timing in the book.

Thanks for the push in the right direction. I have a lot to learn before I start messing with fuel and timing. I lack alot knowledge in timing so I'll try and find out as much as I can for that (the affects of advancing and retarding).

on a completely stock motor u arnt gonna get much out of it really
about the only tuning u would do is to lower the insanly rich fuel map towards the upper limit. get yourself a a/f guage and do a rough tune to it

You need to do a little more searching on this one. I read here on the forum somehwere that there was a well-known tuner that got an extra 20 or 40 hp (can't remember and yes, I know its a big difference) out of a stock 7and increased the MPG to around 24.
