bad news.

I have a hair line crack at the dowel casting on my rear iron. It is slowly seaping oil, about a drip every 30 seconds. I was in denial at first and I replaced o-rings on my pedistal, sealed the Oil Pressure port, ect. But i watched it seap from the casting and i just uttered ****!

It IS the S4 rear iron so I guess it just can't take even 360 whp. So sad because I just was about to dyno.

GOOD NEWS is I am going to order a brand new rear iron from Mazdatrix and from what Kevin Landers told me Mazda will send me with the iron with the BEEFIER casting. Kevin says he hasn't ordered a S4 rear iron BUT S5 he has and it was beefier.

So I will take the engine out, pull the bad iron CAREFULLY, trace the port job since I have no template, Port the new one, put in new water seals and o-ring and original side seals.

Gonna be a while before she is back on the road due to moving in to a new house we bought BUT never the less this still isn't as BAD AS A BLOWN engine.

I figure some time in july it should be finished.

Shart that sucks a lot. Either way it will probably take me that long to be ready to get to the dyno anyway. Let us know if you want some helping hands.

Purchased a new on today from Mazdatrix. They told me that the new one will come with the most updated thick casting made.

However Mazdatrix highly recommended replacing my rear rotor housing since they said that the dowel pin hole stretches and will cause the new one to break over time.

I am skeptical because: 1) I have no way of knowing if the previous owner of this motor pre-ignited it a couple times and started the crack and it had finally worked its way to the surface

2) most cracked rear irons BLOW up and are a cause from pre-ignition. My crack is hairline and is only seaping VERY slow. Also I am not pushing excessive boost(15psi) and that psi does not move rotor housings enough to oval a dowel hole.

I will measure the hole with a caliper and see if it is uniform. Hell, I could pu;; the dowel pin half way and the see if it has any wiggle.

Thing that SCARES me though is I will have to port and from what I hear the rear irons are a BITCH to port and have had many people tell me to practice on bad rear irons so I dont **** up a 375.00 part.

****!

about 10 years ago, I had pins put in my feet because I was flat footed. They have been out of place lately, and so I had to get them removed. I can't wait to drive the 7 again. I've been waiting all winter. grrr

I think I am gonna take the rear iron off and then send the bad and good irons down to Rotarty Performance to have them match port.

They built this motor, so the template should be the same.

...Who knows maybe when I pull the rear iron it may not even be ported (one of the reasons I am hesitant sending the new iron there right away, besides the point in port size differences over the years since their shop has grown)

I am moving into our new house right now SO that is cool BUT GOD DAMN the FC for making me want to rush this move and not enjoy it. All I want to do is rip into the mother ******* engine and get her back to 100%. I ******* HATE THIS ADDICTION!!!

House is very nice. Can't wait to show you guys. BAd thing is one car garage attached to home....that means late night wrenching will have to be pnuematic tool free since it is right below my little girls room. NOOOOOO

Haha we can just duct tape a pillow around her head der. fix er right up

I don't use air tools much anyway other then the necessities

Oh and car is done gonna plug in the WB sensor tomorrow and try and get it to the garage to fire up.......! I need to get some carb cleaner first so I can clean plugs if it doesn't fire after cranking to build oil pressure.

Everything seems to be in working order. I got the display for the WB calibrated tonight and ready.

And she lives again! Finally got it fired up last night at around 12:00. Let it idle and burn off all the lube and get it up to operating temp. Got the timing gun out my CAS is not zeroed so I let it burn for a bit longer. At some point out of the haze appears a friendly officer wondering if the place is on fire. Seems he was in the lot across central and saw a bunch of smoke from the back of the building. Anyway I **** my pants and decided that was enough for the night even though he did not express any distaste for anything I was doing. He just wanted to make sure there was no fire, scare the **** out of me "Would have scared the **** out of me with or without the Badge" and go about his business. So I let the smoke clear and re stabbed the CAS and hope tomorrow its zeroed.

I will be at the shop tomorrow if anyone wants to stop by. I am getting up early so call me whenever.

howdy to all you great fallians.. haven't talked to ya in a while, and so i think i should get a quick update.

well, i think you all remember that i blew the motor in my blue s5. then i ordered the jdm motor and ecu from tiger auto. then i got a black t2 from superstock in zootown. still gotta finishh payin for that.

so, now, i've got blue and black next to eachother in the driveway, and tryin to get the jdm motor together with the tranny and stikin them in. then i need to finish the usdm s5 n/a harness to blackie fast (that's my name for the black t2 shell).

still need the stuff to make it run. like the intercooler tubing, and transfering some interior parts to it and such.

but, i'm jobless and not tryin hard enough to get one, and got a baby on the way, and just have lots of life hardships goin to keep me busy.

and if anyone needs any blue interior s5 or any s5 n/a parts (not the lights) let me know. i'll deliver when i come up to see mom & dad.

later dudes!! i'll try to keep up on what happenings on here.

Well, I got a call from the exhaust shop, the guy I gave my car to, didn't lock the car and didn't put it into the shop. Apparently some guy tried to steal my car last night. He couldn't get it started and broke my fuel cut-off switch, but didn't steal any of my goodies. I'm going down there after work to find out the dammage. Apparently, he broke into the honda next to me and tried to steal it too.

They don't know who did it, and they dont' have security cameras. GRRRR I'm just venting right now, cause if they had put the car away, or even locked it, this wouldn't have happened.

The good news is, is that he's willing to cut me a deal with the exhaust, and pay for all the dammage done to my car.
